    Black Lacquer.

But you must also paint the rims black to match.

  4. After looking at the picture blown up, man that car needs everything from what I can see, what does the underside look like ? Do the math. Personally, in answer to the question that started this thread I would not go too far with this car, but they do not do much for me anyway, if you do go full tilt my choice would be black and do not forget to include A/C in the budget. No offense but I would target a 40 and back if I were to invest a boatload of money. I recently sold a 40 2-door sedan, one owner with original black paint that you could shave in for under 15k . It is a good buyers market, I know of a 37 Chevy 2-door sedan with a perfect no rust body for 7500, driving car with torq-thrusts. Hey guys these are my ops and no offense please, some people like red some like purple, to each his own!.

    Girls, girls, girls.... Tsssssss.

    :D

Drive as is and make up your mind about the paint later, after you're sure it's a keeper.

I'm a fan of shiny paint....and fords having ford powerplants.:p

But since it's new to you, I would enjoy it first, ride the piss out of it and then tear into it when you decide it's time. nice score and have fun.

  8. Well... that was not my intention, but he asked about painting it and it would be a lot of money tied up in that car to bring it to a black finish, then there is the gl***, weatherstrips, bumpers, diminishing returns if you ask me! I think I was steering him into driving it without painting, I never put down someone for their car because people have different tastes and different budgets, but the cars are what they are! I admit I have laughed at some of their ideas like the 80's Corvette I saw that they tried to make look like a Lincoln:eek:. It was hideous and I do not care what part of the country you are from, that there was funny! Hey, but if he liked it then really that is all that matters. I guess I will be a little more discerning in my comments so people will not take offense.

At the very least paint the wheels black. I'd like to see it painted though.

Ya know, I did say if it turns your crank that's fine. I grew up watching and helping a Dad who was a racer and hotrodder. I'm in my 50s so do the math. Him and his gang of friends and racers never ran ****ty rusty or "patina'd" cars. They did clean and shiney and during a driving build if there was primer the car was still always kept clean. They also used to occaisionally match the primer with tint or just used the color that was least noticeable. These were workin stiffs raising kids, working and diggin hotrods. They weren't California rich kids or buisness execs wanting a kool car. It was Motown, cruisin the Big Boy or A&W, racing at Flatrock Speedway and working on each other's rides together. That's the respect angle I have. I drove used musclecars once I got wheels. I kept all of em nice and clean and out of the dozen or more in a short time I refinished all but 3. Here's a twist for ya though, I have a Mexican blanket waiting to go in my 61 Belair spt cpe. It's colors compliment the paint I picked and the blanket will be used to protect my brand new OEM seat covers in daily use.

I had a Black 65 Rambler that I spent months doing the body and it had a finish like gl***. I enjoyed the car but hated when something happen to the paint.I was turned from cars for awhile cause of this and found a enjoyment in the not so pretty cars. I found that for the most part that people still enjoyed seeing my cars but I enjoyed it more for the fact that I didn`t have to worry about small nicks and scratches. my T bucket, was painted about 10 years ago has more marks and chips on it then I care to count. The car is flat black and I enjoy it even more as the years p***.

I looked at it some more. That car has a dozen awesome personalities it could wear. Tunneled headlights and Olds flipper wheel covers. DeSoto bumpers. Chrome reversed wheels and pin whites. No bumpers, trick paint and a "California" rake, as in just a bit ***-high. Paint it. Make it yours.

If it was me I would paint it a deeper maroon semi to what was a factory color. Then look at moving to a flathead with time. Again that is just me and my choice.

First thing though is drive it and make sure it stops, handles, and runs well before anything else.
