Well Corvette Carlisle has a Gas Cap Thief! Stealing Original gas caps must be the weekends way of making a living! Ours was stolen, Even the cars under the security watched tent are missing their gas cap (the straight axles) here's why .. a 1957 original gas cap on ebay is up to a $1,000 - Our '58 original gas cap around $350.

God do I hate a thief!

Always engrave your gas cap! That way if that sumbitch puts in on ebay/craigslist you can find his ass and break his arms.

    Suggestions for engraving....

    Your car make.
    Your moms name.
    Steve Mcqueens Birthday.
What your gonna do to the person that takes your gas cap.

    HTH!

    Cheers and beers

I hope you find the fool, than take your gas cap and plant it firmly between his eyes..

did you get them to check the video? ya never know you might get an idea who was up to no good

maybe if more of us told Carlisle that you wont be coming back because they cant help you with the theft issues there, maybe they would be more pro-active..you know..like give a shit..just a thought
, when the numbers of cars go down , maybe than they will care?
oh , and a grand for a dam cap is just stupid..IMO,

Security is hanging their heads in shame and writing reports. This morning is a large flurry of pissed off people so I'm sure they'll watch the security video if they had any under the tents.

You know this may sound dumb of me, but I go to work everyday, and never once have I thought gee, I'll steal gas caps at the show and make a ton of $$. Who thinks that way ?
I agree break their fingers and they might not think to do that again.

Thieves are scumbags............And if gas caps didn't sell for the price of an engine rebuild ,they might not be a target for thieves?

I do not at all condone stealing shit, and fully agree we should just waste this asshole but...350$ to 1,000$ for a gas cap!! Youve gotta be shittin me, Corvette guys sure are dedicated.

  12. That's nothing. Try $850 for a BOLT for a Corvette shifter!!! Two years ago, on that scum auction site.

Thieves suck, period. High-speed lead poisoning...that'll fix 'em!

We are not in any car clubs at all, Big John and son close out the summer every year with this show before the school years starts back up, its a father and son tradition.

We piss off the Corvette people all the time, when John's boy was younger (now 18) he would sit on the deck of the car during the parade into town, and or he'd stand on the seat making believe he was driving. We sit on the fender to rest and there are rock chips all over the nose of the Vette.

John has owned this car for 41 years, he pulled it from the junk yard way back when, its a driver, it has over 600,000 miles on it (NO SHIT) Anyway, where I was going with all that is the Corvette people hate us, lol and we don't care cos we're just having a big time with the car all the time.

But, yes Corvette folks are a different breed of car enthusiasts for the most part. ;) John is just pissed cos the gas cap has been on the car all this time and now gone to some punk - we will not pay big $$ to replace it to original. It's just super annoying that people make a living on other people's stuff! :(

Even the oldest boy now has a newer vette to cruise with dad. It is so cool to have them all into the hobby.

I know of a guy at Iola swap meet who had a 200 dollar Buick hood ornament taken right off his swap meet table. He saw 3 guys with those nice big black Hagerty bags earlier
and figured they just dropped it in that. Stealing anything just sucks nowdays.

  16. Maybe yours was not some punk..........jealous Vette guy perhaps? Thinking that John does not "deserve" such a rare piece.

I just searched Ebay for Vette gas caps. There's a few listed for silly money, but no bids.Searching completed auctions there's one for 100 bucks that sold,a few more around 35-50 bucks and that's it.
Ebay isn't the problem ,it's collector people who will pay anything for a gas cap,and Ebay just happens to be the easiest place to find them.

I agree Truckedup..ebay isnt the problem it just gives the theifs a venue to fence their stolen shit..but if these highly sought after parts were secretly marked, and you had the ability to get the policee involved..(if they would even give a shit , though they should at those prices)
than maybe you could get your shit back, and maybe make selling stolen shit a bit harder..

    just a thought

I just looked too, (it was the corvette people that were saying what the originals cost this morning) but I found some a lower $$ also. I guess they might be talking Corvette Show quality caps ?

As far as jealous about having a 58 corvette, maybe they should work as hard as john (he who has 3 jobs) but I guess not everybody works for what they want.

John pulled that out of the junk yard in Jersey when he was 16 years old, it had no nose and didn't run. It got towed home, he exhausted what he had saved up and owed his dad 800 bucks. His mother stood on the door step with her arms crossed (she's a big woman too- LOL) and said: "Let me get this straight .. you blew your saving, owe $$ to your father and you had to have it towed home?!!"

John swore to her he'd get it running and as you can see he did! Cos it's "Still Runnin" :D 3 engines and 2 rebuilds later ..... ;)

Anytime you have a lot of people and tons of classic high dollar cars , you are just asking for the fuc*ing thief's to come and take things . I set up at Ford Carsile with 4 spaces and yes we catch people all the time trying to steal parts . It's really sad that you have a car all that time with original parts and a bunch of lowlife shit face asshole people have to steal all your parts that aren't nailed down or welded ! Even at the Jalopy Showdown we have stuff stolen all the time and that is really a sad note .
I do hope you can find out who they are and maybe someone was taking a picture when someone was helping themselves to your parts .
Even if someone starts selling them on Ebay there is no way you can prove it's yours unless it has a security mark on it that you have a record of with a picture to prove anything .
I guess next year you will have to strip your car when you get there .

I just hate those fuc*ing bastards thief's and hope you catch them sometime . Then take their hands and stick them to those very hot headers !

"Then take their hands and stick them to those very hot headers !" I think I like that Jim! HA! But you know that wouldn't be politically correct, lol:mad:

  24. I'm glad you have the rest of the car and your life. P.O.S. could have followed you home or to your motel room, hurt or killed you and took the whole car.

  25. Just bait them up !! A thief is just like a rat !! They can't resist the bait and their ass will wind up in the trap !!! >>>>.

If there was quite a few missing, I wouldn't overlook the vendors that were selling corvette gas caps even if they were repoductions. They would have an easy way off the grounds with so many without getting an eye batted at, get to sell a few repo's and then have a stash of good originals for their next swap meet.

I fuckin hate a thief. I hate when fuckers even tell me stealing stories. Back in my college days a buddy shagged a black PMD center cap off of clapped out rusty Poncho in a parking lot. I have 1 in my archives and every time I look at it or it pops up looking for other shit I feel bad that my pal did that. I caught a kid trying to steal the tape player/stereo outta my van once. Me and my girl were in the back...uh, anyways the fact this lil prick messed that up made it worse. I laid in waiting while he stashed his bike and came back. Yes, his bicycle. He opened the door, looked in the back and didn't see me, when his hand grabbed the radio I grabbed his hand. If he'd have been any older he might have had a stroke. I saw he was a minor, 15yrs old. I grabbed him by the collar and shoved him up against the van and could see the terror in his eyes (I'm a big fucker and looked a bit evil back then) and for split second started to feel bad for him. He said he'd give me all of his money to let him go. He had $21. I took it, called the cops and sent him on his way. The cop asked if he gave me money and I looked at the kid and said "You told him you gave me money! You little prick, be glad you're in that fuckin car!!" The cop told me to calm down and took him away. I never did tell the cop yes or no. Fuck him. I wonder what ever happened to that lil shithead? Hope he didn't move to PA...

Probably one of the Corvette crowd did this, the average hotrodder would have no idea that they would sell that high, ever heard the saying (Inside Job) probably a Corvette driving out the gate full of gas caps, some real OO7 security there ,huh.
