The Ford 5.0 is pretty much at home in my Austin-Healey: Here's the rest of the story: http://forum.britishv8.org/read.php?13,8264 Engine swapping ain't easy. Everything I'm doing, fuel line, heater hoses, radiator hoses, engine mounts, air cleaner, exhaust, throttle linkage, choke linkage, needs an adapter or a modification.. Big fun, nevertheless!
Thanks Rick ... I have about had it with the "brush painted fan shroud" resto Big Healys at every auction. Now go and drive it like a rented Hyundai !!!
Looks nice, not a lot of extra room in the Healey engine bay. The sprite had the the same basic engine as my first car, 1955 Austin A55.
Ruh roh! I've got the brush painted "Safety Red" fan shroud and original yellow colored fan, too. Sort of my statement that, "Yeah, I know what a concours Healey looks like, but I didn't want one!" Don't take me as a concours hater, though. I have a lot of respect for people that go into that kind of detail. I just want a Healey with a difference.
Nice work Rick!!! Not nearly enough Healey's actually get driven anymore. Hope that radiator is up to the task of cooling that SBF though, it's pretty tight in there. I know that even with a new core in my old Healey radiator shell my '56 100-4 was pretty tough to keep cool unless you were moving. Of course I had the compression up and that 4 banger putting out 150+ hp, so that may have had something to do with it.
Pretty cool swap. there used to be a Healey that ran around up here in ND that had a 302 in it as well
Nice job with your swap! i have a 100-6 that has had a sprint 6 fitted into it and mated to the orig trans... it's currently in a million pieces- great to see one on the road!
I've got a modern core with an extra row in there. I hope it will be up to the job as well! I bet that Sprint Six would make a nice swap. My Dad purchased a'67 LeMans with the Sprint option new from the factory, unfortunately with the two-speed slushbox. Still moved really good and first was good to about 65 mph. Car and Driver infamously swapped one into an E-Type Jag back in the day, much to the chagrin of the purists.
Oh, Friggin Drooooool!!! The Deuce roadster of Brit Sportcars! Weel done, I have always wanted to do exactly what you've done there.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337376&page=3 The photos posted by "26Tudor" are the ones of the 289/302 that I posted on the HAMB a while back. The guy that owned it said somebody came up from either SoCal or AZ, paid him either $1k or $1.5k, and took it away...
It's a '63. Asking me if I'm basically making a Sebring is like asking a guy building a traditional rod if he's basically making a fibergl*** body clone.
