Youch...hate to see that ding on the cowl...nothing life threatening though.

I just might have drank a beer with the fella that built that old girl last weekend...

  4. I saw Aaron this weekend and he said he had sold it and also mentioned the new owner catching it on fire...

Yep, Aaron did sell it and the owner did catch it on fire!

Me and Marcy delivered it the the new owner a month or so ago, i drove it off of Marcy's trailor to the guys driveway, he took it for a spin, made it home ok, and Aaron called us the next afternoon telling us the guy caught it on fire somehow.

Eight carbs and not quite being used to the ways of the car = possibility of fire.

looks a little crispy right in the area of the damage to the cowl. probably more from fire damage than from a ding.

looks like a little paint & some new wiring & it will be as good as new.

battle scars happen when cars get driven. It'll be alright. Glad to see the car getting enjoyed. It's a coolie.

If you thought the fire was bad, it is getting even worse at House of Hot Rods. They don't give a shit about the car.

Here's the new owners other ride.

The whole situation reminds me of the guy who showed up to Pistons N Paint a couple years ago with that awesome '55 Chevy custom that had been built in the '50s. He just bought it was was showing off his new purchase. Then he proceeded to get wasted and drive the car over a curb, doing some serious damage.

Some people have no business owning cars like that.

Maybe it was a nitrous explosion.

  16. That's funny! the only thing that would have made it better was if he did it in front of Marcy and you. Look at the bright side, since the Atomic Punk is now in Texas, that just means it's one step closer to hopefully being found in front of Porno Store in Mexico someday? :D

I like how it's under the "Follow this build" page on House of Hot Rods site.
I suspect it will be for sale again soon.
Bass said it best, "Regular people don't understand that hot rods catch on fire." haha

He flooded it and killed it when we were showing him how to start it, I suspect he killed it turning a corner, flooded it and backfired. Could have easily been much worse.

So true! Actually, I kinda know that guy, and yes he sure did seriously damage that '55, what a shame. But a hopped up big block in a historical custom can be a bad idea in the wrong hands anyway, drunken stupidity not withstanding.

I had no idea the Punk was sold, I know Aaron posted about cannibalizing the hemi a while back for his Vicky project. Sucks it's already fucked up, hope it will be okay.

    His name is Rob Benigar.

It wasn't taken apart...he just caught it on fire being stupid. I know his money was green though, and that's all that matters sometimes. He just needs to realize that with a car like this, he is nothing more than a care taker and it simply needs to be maintained and appreciated.

I'm admittedly blowing it a little out of proportion....but the car is getting a braided stainless throttle cable. I can understand changing to a cable for functional reasons. But when the decision is....braided stainless or plain black cable housing.....and you pick braided stainless....for THIS car....it is very, very clear that you don't know what the hell you are doing. It's a minor detail, but one that I have never been able to overlook.

Where will it stop? Might as well put some billet valve covers and 20" Billet Specialties wheels on it.

You should have to fill out an application & get approved for the right to own a car like that. Stupid people or people with no respect for what it is need not apply.

Hopefully they manage to put it back together & not mangle it too badly.

I am surprised that it took this long to make it's way around the interweb. ha ha It happened on July 5th.

I am not really sure how it happened, but as Marcy said evrything was fine when she left it with the new owner. I do know that Dave Martinez drove it around L.A. for several months with no problems, and I ran the shit out of it around the cornfields of Illinois and never had any issues. Bass went and looked at it the night it happened. He was going to fix it, then all of a sudden I found out it was going to this shop. I don't know a thing about them. Maybe someone could enlighten us?

I hope they paint it with some Pink flake or something. That would rule.

Any car can catch on fire, I don't think that means the guy did anything wrong. I just hope that he puts it back together like it was. It's his car now, and he can do as he wishes with it. But, it will be a shame if he tries to "improve on it." I think the car is just unhappy at it's new home. It would be much happier parked next to the Lander.
