funny, yes. But it can't be a lot of fun for the canines.

    I really enjoy this thread.

I hate this, it looks ike my old loyal female beage is ging to have to be put down, she's always had attacks of paranoia from time to time, but over the last couple of days it's gotten much worse. she's elderly so not much point in trying to do anything. now i need to try and scrounge up the money to have her put down. she gets terrified someone is tryng to hurt her, so bad she nipped me this morning, this is a sweet dog She was a rescue from an abuseive home. who wouldn't hurt anyone. she gets terrified and starts shaking and yelping. I wonder if she's remembering the past? I'm sure their minds get old just like ours. if anyone wants to help me out getting her put down let me know

This is the old fart herself with the youngest,he keeps checking on her, worried about the fact she isn't doing so well. We will take it one day at a time, I think she's going to have to be put down soon, at the moment she's ok but it comes and goes

lostforawhile: The things I regret most are the times I was too selfish to let my animals go, and held onto them past their time.

There is a beginning, a middle and an end to everything. The trick is to learn acceptance, and to try to be wise enough to tell the difference between what you can change, and what you can't.

Please have your vet contact me...I'll PM you my phone number...to make financial arrangements. You can repay me when you get back on your feet.

i pmed you, she's sleeping on the couch, she will get up and go out and everything, and is eating, but i think her mind is going. we will contact the vet as soon as I think it's time, I won't try to keep her past her time, she's been a good dog, I don't want her to suffer. she's not bad at the moment, if it gets worse she will go. She's an old dog and has been through a lot in her time. I just don't know how much time she's got, could be a day, could be a week, I think she will let us know when it's time. I will make sure she goes peacefully.

Yes , it is a hard decision to make. I'm in the same place right now with my 13 year old Dalmatian. He's failing but still eats and gets around OK. Come November he will have been with me 13 years. He may have a week or hell maybe a year we go day to day.

the vet has her sceduled in in a couple of hours, i hate to do this but i don't want her sufferring, it's bad enough to put any dog down, but especially an old hound like this one. :(
she stopped drinking water last night, refuses to drink i think she is going anyway, this will just help her along

I'm so sorry for you. It is so hard to let go. You know nothing will replace her, but given time what you will remember is the good and happy times. Knowing that nothing will replace her and it shouldn't maybe in the future you will find another friend. Thre are so many dogs out there that need a friend.

i'm worried about the lab pup, he's very attached to her, she finally quit growling at him and tolerates him, he absoulty loves to aggrevate her by laying against her or nosing her, she's ready to go, all she wants to do is sleep, doesn't want to play or roll in the dirt as usual or anything she's ready

We had to give our dogs away (they needed space like they were used to and we had a small back yard and not enough time to play with them) and luckily the place that took them till they could get adopted asked if they needed to be together. Trust me, it will take time but with a new puppy everyone, including the dog will adjust that much better. I am sorry for your loss though.

My girls, Lugs(the smaller one) and Sabre. Both mutts I got when they were on the way to the pound. Don't know what I'd do without em..

Lostforawhile, I'm sorry to hear that man, putting my old dog of 17 years down was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Maybe its too soon, but can I suggest getting another one from the pound? Just seems to me the best way to honor a good dogs life is to save another...JMHO

Ours is a Border Collie, too. She's 16 and although she is rapidly losing her eyesight and hearing, she still has a spring in her step.

:( Lost him yesterday to heart failure. Best damn dog I ever had. The whole way to the vet he wanted the window down, then would get pissed off when I put it down for him... That was Magoo though. Stubborn little shit. :)

.....Still got that idiot pitbull though.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, KK. I'm glad to see that you are staying focused on the good times, and willing to put all your love into the one who's still with you...idiot though he may be.

sorry to hear that, I lost a labradane to that a few years ago, was healthy and fine, then got really sick and died the next day, we think his heart gave out, common with that great dane blood. It's always the best dogs that have the weakest hearts. We also lost the beagle wendsday after she had to be put down. Go save a mutt at the pound, your buddy would have wanted you to.

It may seem hard to do, but there's an interesting mutt at your local animal shelter just waiting for someone to take him, before he gets put down just because he's not wanted. They never forget you saved them. If I hadn't already owned four, we would have gone down and adopted one in Lucys memory for her.

By all means, get one that needs a little lovin'. "Used" dogs from the shelter are the best dogs of all.
