Don't go. If they turn 80% of the cars that show up, they feel important. If 80% of their participants and spectators don't show, they fail.

Wasn't Hersey for "stock" old vehicles back not that long ago? And then they started to allow modified of hot rod types? So maybe they are just going back to the old way cause that's what they want?

  6. It's their show....they can do what they want with it. Just like if there was a show for only traditional hot rods that turned away streetrods and stock rides.....

I'd be a hypocrit if I complained. It's similar to the HAMB Drags and us only allowing the types of cars we enjoy...

You just gotta understand. They don't want to focus on hot rods. That's cool.

Skidmarks, are you referring to bringing your vehicle into the swap area?

Am I going to have to remove the mag wheels from my '65 Country Squire so that I'll be able to get to my swap meet spaces? As of about a month ago, it truely is my daily driver.
I think I may actually call the AACA.
Or maybe I'll sell my parts here on the HAMB and drive my wife's 2003 Camry into the swap meet.
I can't believe we're talking about this again. I respect that it's their show but I hope I don't see a Model A banger with a Winfield head anywhere. Can't the guys who run the thing think on their feet?
    Geeez.

I think he just wants to have his car in the swap meet as his transportation, not in the judging, he's a seller, that's ridiculous, I can understand perfectly in the show or being judged, but kicking out sellers because of what they transport their stuff in? I guess they expect everyone to bring their stuff to sell in perfect period correct trucks with no modifications? or pack it in on their backs? I no one has any engines to sell, that can really put a strain on the ole back. when they do the big meet here in Moultrie, no one even cares what the vendors drive, it makes no difference, they want to see the cars in the car corral, the late model parked next to the booth has no bearing on the show. should be the same everywhere.

What would the rules be for participation in the HAMB drags, What would get you bumped? It would be nice to post them, it's a long drive to be treated in such a friendly way.

I had the chance to ride with someone to go see last years show, I'm way down here in the south, but I heard they were treating people badly, so I decided to stay here. If someone isn't in the show, or isn't being judged, or showing off their car, what difference does it make what they drive?

I'm about 100 miles from there. But yeah, it would really suck to drive a long distance to be turned away.
I know everyone can't do it, but I would rather see people selling out of vintage vehicles than new duallie pick-ups. Even if the vintage vehicles weren't totally stock.
I've been going for years, though not always selling, and there have always been vehicles around with some modifications.

Regardless, they are excluding a majority of people who do not have a choice to not modify the vehicle. A lot of younger hot rodders, including myself, cant afford to throw 500-1k into an engine rebuild for these older engines, if we can find them. I would be rather irked if I were closer and was planning on going.

Well it's all pre-reg now so you should know before hand, and really if you are here and paying attention and don't know then you have a problem.

This reminders me every January about people here complaining about the winner of the "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" award at the Grand National Roadster Show.
Not every show is about, nor does it focus on, traditional hot rods and customs.
Like I said last January...when you buy a ticket to a hockey game, don't be upset because they don't play baseball.

If it ain't for modified cars that's cool.

Hey guys, he's not talking about entering his car in the show, he's talking about the truck he's using to haul parts into the swap meet!!

Every show has some sort of rules, mostly year cut-offs etc... Just this is a really large show/swap. I'm sure there is a point where it gets too large and this is how the organizers have decided to control the size of their event. Maybe someday the rules will change to increase attendance if it falls off for some reason, but who knows...

Why would it matter what you haul your swap stuff in with? Guys who are trying to win a trophy aren't the guys selling rusty, greasy, dirty stuff in 35 year old cardboard boxes... Turning people away from your swap is bad news, how many times have we found that awesome gem in a heap of trash, that some odd ball vendor drug in?

So every vendor showing up at Hersey has to be driving a stock 1930's truck?

  24. Seems to me, I buy a swap space, it shouldn't mean a damn thing if I show up in a hot rod, a beat up pickup truck, or a Rolls-fucking-Royce, I paid for that spot and I'm not going to levitate all that old shit in and out of there. I mean my current beater isn't really stock anymore, even though a lot of the modifications are half-assed 'keep it rolling until it's too rotted to pass inspection' kind of stuff.

    Agreed.

    Or a 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or brand spanking new one apparently... stock...

Ive been going to Hershey for going on 25 years now. The focus is on Restored and original cars. The car corral does not allow Hot Rods and Customs. However the vast array of parts for sale makes it all worth while. Plenty of material for people like us. If you don't want to go, your loss!

What if you swap out the radio? Is that not stock enough anymore?

Hershey is an event that I have never attended but may do so someday. If the car I choose to drive that day isn't allowed in, no big deal, I'll park outside. I'm saving up all my whinin' for something important.
