I came across this nameplate at a swap meet and it caught my eye and had to buy it, the guy i got it from didnt even know he had it in the box, and had no clue where or what it came from. Ive google'd, and searched all over online and cannot find any clues.......anyone have any ideas? is it an old JC Whitney piece, rare custom made, or off an old bike or what....im going to use it on my rat, but i just want to know what it is> It appears to say Dragon, and the "D" is a rocket.
Yup, Kaiser was an auto manufacturer (if you weren't aware) and they had a model called "Dragon" that this emblem came from. Made in the early 1950's.
I read that it's a Kaiser, I was referring to it's roof. I was wondering what was on it and if that was stock.
Yes the Kaisers from that time had a widows peak in the front gl***. I suggest looking up the drag'n build on here. One of my favorites. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272171
The roof is, indeed, stock. The car was designed by Howard 'Dutch' Darrin and the unusual windshield design he termed the Sweetheart Dip. So much for the history lesson.
Typical HAMB efficiency - 9 minutes to get an answer on a rather obscure piece! Gotta love this place!!
"The 1953 Kaiser "Hardtop" Dragon sedan was the most luxurious Kaiser of all, inspired by Spencer's Dragon trim from 1951. Distinguished by gold-plated exterior trim (hood ornament, badges, script, and keyhole cover) the Dragon featured a padded top, usually made of "bambu" vinyl. This tough, oriental-style material also covered the dash and parts of the seats and door panels...." -Encyclopedia of American Cars 1940-1970
It should fit perfectly with the tractor grill. jeez, Me thinks Ryan oughtta make newbies take a quiz on the core values of the site prior to being aloud to post.
*****ing! thanks for the info. yea, i was referring to the bamboo vinyl top, thought it was a little too weird and different to be stock, i thought wrong. that one kaiser build is effin nice as well. i love a good build thread.
what a cool name for a car. Dragon... Kaiser had all sorts of weird fabrics in there cars with crazy seats and dash pads. it is always interesting to look inside one with an original style interior.
Haha, I agree - that's the phrase that jumped out at me as well. Oh, and the name and nameplate is cool. Steve
I'd like to know if they do too. If not, there is this option. I was playing around with the idea of woodgraining a roof of a wagon thats why I was interested in the Kaiser's roof. Anyhow, one possible solution I thought of doing was painting it with tools and paint from http://woodgraining.com/ This is one of the responses I got awhile back. p.s. Thread HighJack!
