Thanks Rustler! They were born in 1916 so the age of the car seems about right.

View of chauffeur inspecting a LaSalle automobile owned by John and Adeline Petrie. Note the “Wichita, the Air Capital” medallion mounted on the grille. Wichita adopted the Air Capital slogan in 1928. The logo was introduced to boost pride in the city after a contest sponsored by Kiwanis. Chamber of Commerce member who signed a safe-driving pledge received medallions for their automobiles. The Petries owned a local clothing store that bore their name.

Thanks MrModelT, for hosting the last quiz and getting the most entries ever. Here is this week's mystery car. Rather than multiple cars, I am back to just one. Please send me your answer by PM - do not post it. Next week, the winner(s) will be announced.

I have the feeling this not just one make...it's either several makes in one or a factory prototype....which is the direction I'm leaning.

The photo quality is very high and was taken by a large, professional camera...something the average person may not of had. The exposure is excellent, suggesting a professional photographer and the car is undoubtedly the main subject of the photo so it has a "company contracted this photo" feel.

    Now the car:

The car it self doesn't look right...the wheels are large, as are the fenders...but they don't fit right...or the car for that matter. Also notice the wood blocks holding up the front fenders, suggesting they are only mocked up for this shot (the rear fender splash aprons appear to have been removed as well). The radiator and hood don't look or fit right either: the Radiator is taller than the firewall, causing the hood to sit lower to the rear and opening a decent gap between the hood and firewall. The fenders and hood also appear not to be painted, or at least another lighter color while the body is obviously painted black or another dark color.

It is also void of any accessories (horns, windshield, top, etc) save for the 2 side lamps and is clean despite being a very early car in a world with not allot of paved roads where cars did not stay clean long.

Has an early Oldsmobile "flavor" to it, but there is really not telling. I high quality scan may reveal some I.D. from the hub caps...which are hard to see here.

MrModelT - excellent observations. Like the Fronty gow job, I love this car and would love to know the story behind it. I'd add to your comments that the triple tier cowl lights would more likely have been on a larger car than this one. The same might hold true for the fenders. Very cool photo and car.

Before the natives get too restless with so many mysteries, here's one I am pretty certain of. More "fun with plates." This is a 1908 Vermont plate and the car is a Jeffery (made in Kenosha, Wisconsin). Owner was Alfred Temple of Montpelier, VT. You can see the license number is painted on the cowl light lens, which was often done in that era in many states. Another nifty item to check is what he is holding. It looks like the steering wheel has detached from the spider, but it hasn't. The ring below the wheel is the hand throttle. Pull up to go, and let go to stop.

Agreed. It should also be noted that the running boards appear to be just unfinished, uncovered wood boards. The steering components also appear to be unfinished, shift levers are unfinished brass and there appears to be an "original" fender iron that has been bent or "moved out of the way", but not removed. I also think the brass rod is potentially a windshield support rod for a windshield that has been obviously removed.

Mr Model T and all-Your on the right track about company contracted photo.I've seen a company brouchure and it has a image based on this photo. The mockup is probably due to lead times required for printing. My grandfather was the treasurer of this company. I'll let your hang a little longer just in case someone gets the answer, but i have my doubts if twin6 or MrModelT didn't already get it! T-Head or SUNROOFCORD have'nt rung in yet so there's hope!I've also done a little amateur retouch no Photoshop here just to make it a little tougher!

Definitely a 1907 Rambler (built by the Thomas B. Jeffery Co. Kenosha, WI).

    Nice looking car..
