No sleep tonight... is it me, or do the hubcaps not match? Rear one looks blurred, perhaps to hide a name. This is a fun one Kool66.

No kidding...this this is gonna bug the heck out of me! It just Reeks of early Oldsmobile, but the radiator could be Overland, Kissel Kar or even Buick. not a whole lot of makes used wheels that big or fenders that size on a smaller car.

This car was pulled from a auto junk yard here in town back in the late 1940's that was outback behind a repair garage. Today the shop and house are part of St Mary's Cemetary, and the caretaker lives there. I bought my current driver from him last month a 1999 Plymouth Voyager, and wondered if it was parked in the same spot the ALCO was all those years ago. The 1909 & 1910 Vanderbult Cup winning ALCO live here in town for a while and my Dad got a ride in it once. [IMG]

Here it is.1909/10 Detroit-Dearborn Touring Torpedo Model Minerva Blue body with red leather interior. My grandmother described this car to me many years before in the 1950's.She saw it once when they stopped in front of their house when they towing it to the Detroit Auto show with a team of horses! They had'nt got a clutch that worked in time for the show!Sounds a little like Tucker and his trans problems!I have some other info on the car if anyone wants a little more.I found out this info starting in the mid 80's long after Granmas death but she had a good memory and had remembered the cars colors well. Thanks Gram for telling me all those good stories about my Grandfather and his many business and adventures.

...Detroit-Dearborn? That one threw me off, big time. Heard of Abbot-Detroit, Chalmers-Detroit, Warren-Detroit and just plain ol' Dearborn, but not Detroit-Dearborn....ya learn something new everyday.

Hi- on the two pictures identified as Olds, it isn't. Thats a 1909-10 Buick Model 16, appears to be a toy tonneau or surrey with the rear section removed (the rear section comes off easily). I have a toy tonneau I'm restoring. Great cars with big 4 cylinder engine, although hood was designed to make it appear to have a 6 cylinder, which was much in vogue at the time.....David Coco Winchester Va.

David - many thanks. Our near-resident Buick expert (Early Guy) has been busy and away from this thread a while, or I am sure he'd have pounced on this first. I am always learning and open to being corrected, and sure appreciate your setting the record straight on those pix. Olds was scrawled on the back, and whoever did that didn't know and neither did I. Thanks again, and welcome to the HAMB.

T-Head recently posted a link to a video clip from the film "Speedy" starring Harold Lloyd, that featured Harold piloting the T taxi at breakneck speeds. Here's a still from the movie, with Babe boarding the taxi.

There's a nice photo of it in the Fall 1962 AQ when Harrah owned it. An HCCA president re-restored the car and showed it at Hershey and Pebble Beach (maybe 15 years ago? time slips by and I lose track).

This Duesenberg J-513 sold for $20,000 brand new in the 1930s, earning the nickname“Twenty-Grand.” That’s comparable to about $300,000 today.

The 1933 Duesenberg J-508 cost $13,500 when it was brand-new. It was one of the lowest-priced Duesenberg models.

Posted by Twin6. Actually, most people today wouldn't
remember Harold's name. But BACK THEN, he was right
up there on the marquee with Chaplin, Arbuckle and Keaton!
He'd made so much money, he had his own film company
by the late '20s, s the 8X10 above shows. Babe was a
Lloyd fan and appeared, as himself, in this special movie
mainly as a good turn for someone whose work he respected.
THANKS, Twin, for bringing up this keen, forgotten silent!!!

Jim, is it about a '32/'33? Cool car. Hey, bro,
do you happen to have a pic of Gable's Darrin
Packard drop-top? He was happily married to
Carole Lombard ta the time. But the Packard
was so sexy, he complained that women would
jump into the car when he'd have to stop for
a light. So, he sold the car (I can imagine that
he bought a classy coupe or osmething so that
Carole wouldn't hear stories about babes jumping
    onboard so easily!).

Here is something you all might find interesting.

This is a quiz...sort of, not of car knowledge...but observation. It is of course "un-official". Both of these photos are tagged as being taken in 1913, NYC.

What is the one thing BOTH photos have in common?

    Attached Files:

  30. The coupe with the damaged left rear fender is in both pictures.
