James bond (Sean Connery) in his Sunbeam Alpine rental. (Just not quite as good as some photos of Alpines):

I have looked this pic over as best I can, and here's what I think. 65 Chevy with an earlier 409 , remains of a standard transmission bellhousing bolted to the block.

I blew the pic up and what I first thought was the early PG adapter plate looks the remains of an early cast iron bellhousing that probably had a clutch-flywheel explosion, 348s had the dip stick on the drivers side like a 283 while the 409s had the dip stick on the passenger side of the engine . :)

Dog427, yet again, you are awesome, man! Cool car,
but this one's unusual (at least to my eyes). Anybody
know what that grille shell is telling us? I see a greyhound
the says Ford product, but the grille isn't Ford, is it?

Many THANKS, 62DragFalcon! I LOVE the car, but that grille was pretty unusual, and I couldn't place it! Still, wasn't it GREAT when a young guy could go to junkyards and just SHOP for things and put together a hotrod??? I guess THAT was the heart of TRAD, eh??? First, guys had to experiment with what a hotrod really should be.

I could'nt agree more. back then there was no formula for what a hot rod should be. the cars were built not as a representation of a trend but a reflection of the ingenuity and skill of the man building it.
