I always make mine from the vinyl or leather I use on the seats. Looks a whole helluva lot better than the stuff off the roll. But if thats what you want search for "carpet binding" or "single fold binding" you can use a double fold binding if thats all you can find, it usually used for sunvisors, where both sides are seen. It will work for carpet its just tricky to sew in that application.

    I agree with Kris

Use the same vinyl or leather. It's the only way to do it.

Carpet binding is thin and very durable. Leather and vinyl is thicker and really stand out when sewn on. Carpet binding blends in and less noticable. Depends on the look you want. PM me. I`ve got what you need.

Just for the sake of clarity, there is no way carpet binding out performs leather (or good quality vinyl for that matter) as far as durability. Carpet binding is made from very low quality vinyl with minimal backing. Its a cheap solution when speed and cost is the primary concern. If you've recently had your interior done there should be enough left over to bind the whole carpet.

I DID NOT say leather out performs carpet binbing.Carpet binding is more durable than vinyl. Also use the marine grade. NOT everybody uses leather in there cars.

When binding is made at the factory, [as in rolls of fabric stripped ] carpet binding is stripped diagonally and joined together. This makes it sit flatter when sewn on round corners.
A flat binding will sometimes cause the carpet to "curl up" on corners.

The only product better than carpet binding is carpet overlocking [ similar to "wilton carpet" in old English cars ]

You're actually both right, but you're both talking apples and oranges. The cheap vinyl binding that comes in rolls that is spliced together is no match for leather or good vinyl, but woven acrylic binding that is used to match the colors of Sunbrella boat covers is far superior in an environment where heavy use is involved. That also comes in rolls and is available in a lot of colors and in single fold or double fold versions. Any upholstery shop can get it for you, but you'd probably have to order a whole roll unless the shop had the color you're looking for in stock.

Actually, STAYFAST binding is as good as the sunbrella stuff. It is used on high end convertible tops(BMW, Mercedes, ect.). A little easier to find. then there is the standard vinyl carpet binding, plus there is the convertible top (Vinyl) style of binding which is Mid range. This should do the job with out being overkill. Holds up to the outside weather just fine. -----
