  1. Wow, what a great pic of the short-lived NHRA experimental jetpack-equipped flag starter.

I stumbled across these today when I was going through some old pictures. They were taken either the last season or the next-to-last season that Connecticut Dragway was opened. Sad to think this is now a testing facility for Consumer Reports![IMG]

Here's another few pics that I took at Connecticut Dragway the same day as the previous ones. Wish they were better quality, but these four and the prior ones were the best of the group that I shot.[IMG]

  7. Here's a shot I took at this year's US Nationals in Indy. Who would have thought in 1968 that super stock cars would run in the mid 8s in 2010? Yes, he was the winner of the Mopar Hemi Challenge...vvvrrrooommmm

hope this aint off topic. this old man pulled a stunt like that at dallas georgia racetrack. brakes failed on 63 max-wedge. wound up in the pine thicket at the end of the track. wish i had pics of it though. it was in the late 60s

Fabulous shots from Riverside ! I can't imagine how many buildings are now resting on that land. I like the t shirts with short sleeves.

I've been working my way though this topic for months now. Just had to join awhile back to get into the "friends of Pocono Drag Lodge". Pretty much grew up there as a kid. [10 years old in 68] Seen a few Pocono photos on here, they were great to see. That's the place I fell in love with Gassers. I'd like to put in a request for any and all Pocono photos. Especially any with Bobby Steiner, early Pocono photos. Thank again guys , great topic. You all have done a unbelievable job posting history. I'll catch up to ya's soon, I'm just breaking the 900s, dial up ya know.

That was the one. It was brand new. We had tested it at Gainsville a couple days before and then went to Bradenton. JC

  18. My apologies to Mr Daniels. I saw the win light in the Barton lane. Didn't check the results as I should have. Barton cut a .027 light and ran a 8.559, Daniels cut a .018 light to run a 8.56. were talkin close here folks. In looking at the whole Mopar Hemi challenge ladder, Daniels lights were awesome. He cut lights of , .030, .029, .005 (WOW), .011 WOW again, and the .018 for the win. Now we know how he won it. Driving like that will find it's way to the winner circle. Driving a fast Hemi did hurt either....
    Go Hemi, vvrroooomm

I saw Hubert Platt spin his '68 CJ Mustang around when he saw how short the stopping area was at Silva, NC. He didn't know that the fence to the adjoining pasture was down in case someone couldn't get stopped. They were already running 600' instead of a full eighth to help.

Also talking about going into the trees, in the sixties Paradise Dragstrip in Calhaun, GA was still running a full quarter. The shutdown area went up hill for a ways and then went over a hill and down. I saw Robert Nance (MR. Plymouth) in one of the Little Mr. Plymouth cars (he had a long nose Barracuda and a long nose Valiant at the time) go over the hill out of site and after a long wait he came back over the hill walking because he had put the car into the woods at the end of the track.

Paul told me that Richard's car was lying on its side with flames licking around the cockpit when he arrived. Richard was yelling the he was on fire and wanted Smith (first on the scene) to put him out. There was no water in sight so Smith's reply was "Do you want me to piss on you".

HEHE, sounds like something Smith would say. It was a hell of a scene when we got down there. Richard was laying there, the car still burning, what a fucking mess. But thats part of it. JC
