Keep in mind that Kathy isn't creating this car, she is re-creating it. Her decision (see the early part of this thread) was to retain the old-time characteristics of the original car wherever possible, instead of changing the nature of the car by applying modern technology and building techniques. She has fudged here and there in deference to safety and torsional rigidity to protect the body and the passengers, but this is a good thing, in my opinion. You may not agree with her decision, but her resolve to retain the "historically-correct-but-flawed-by-today's-standards" flavor of the original build is unshakable. I am in complete support of her approach. Go Kathy!
WOW, you are doing a fantastic job, Kathy! Cant wait to see you doing burnouts in the parking lot of the "Good" Hotel in Temple. You are going to make 'ol Colin proud!

Seriously, it's been said before that in today's world such an extreme channel would be bashed, but I am staying with my first instinct which was to take it back to what it was. You cannot deny that the original stance demands your attention! Does this picture make you feel any better?
JB, I so wanted Tuffy to be at the "good hotel" for his first outing. Day Of The Drags is my favorite event of the year. Casey is alway on my mind - parking lot donuts.
Thanks Kathy, when I first saw the chaneling on the car it made me wonder what you were doing, I had never taken the time to view the entire build, so, I was unaware that it was a survivor car and you were recreating what had been done back in the day. You have done a tremendous job, my hat is off to you and your friends, wish I lived closer, I'd like to see that up close and personal like. I'll be paying closer attention to this thread.
Kathy, first off, I should have paid closer attention to this thread, I had not followed it in detail, just picked up on the end, I didn't realize you were recreating the original build. I think I suffer from the same thing you do some times, I look at pictures and don't read everything like I should. I saw so many killer parts and guess I was a little overwhelmed . The chaneling part really sent me way out there lol. I think you have done a remarkable job, a tremendous undertaking I'm sure. I'll be watching this thread a lot closer from now on. Way Cool
why didnt you z the frame behind the firewall so you could atleast almost sit comfortable in the car? but maybe your a short guy
Richard, Call me first, I am on breaker shift so who knows when I will work this month. I thought about it for months. It was discussed in great length with Collin Casey over out last beer together. Then I went and set in my Vette and it was almost identical. In fact, I am using all the measurements from the Vette and I think it will be fine. Yes and the car was built around 1957 or 1958. He was on the leading edge of the 1960's hotrods. Great insite for a young man.
No I used 53-56 Ford Pickup 15x5. I am not really sure if they are what Ron had on the car to begin with but they are very close. Yes Rusty, I am still putting thought into it, but I will have a recessed firewall with an enclosed drip tray coming from the master clyinders to the firewall. Then the aluminum firewall will be flush mounted with the cowl (as it was) and removable. My thought is no mess inside the car and I can access the MC's from outside the car.
All I did last month was pick up parts and work overtime. Took my son to Day Of The Drags and we had a blast! He was on Doc's pit crew and Doc let him warm up the 34 with a blower on it - talk about a smile! I have been playing catch up around the house - ever notice how much you neglect your house and yard during a build? I did get a cool pm from this ladies nephew, Erik - power of the Hamb! He said this picture was from 1963 Norfolk Auto Show. And his Uncle was with Ron, "on the bikes". And tonight I got this from him! It really fills in some unknowns. This is a copy from the Norfolk High School newspaper (The Panther)article that his Uncle had kept. The Uncle thinks it was 1958 or 59. I tried to crop it but I stink, the email that I got is much clearer. Anyway, I'm loving this picture!
The Heap of the month article is awesome! Yea you can really fall behind on house work and yard when youre busy doing something you like I bet you youre son did like warming the blower motor up, my 11yr old would, my 14 yr could care less Weird how one can like it and the other dont. Car is lookin good keep up the good work.
