I recently learned that my neighbor and friend died recently and he left his widow Barbara all his Hot Rod things including his 1932 five window coupe that he built when I was a kid in the early 70s , I have great memories of Jim driving down the street and hitting the AAH-OOGA horn and lighting up the hides !!!
Barbara will be selling the coupe but would like me to help her find the current value of the car ,
the car has its original Body, frame , fenders and running boards , the car was redone in the early 90s which probably hurt the value a little bit but it is still a REAL 32 five window coupe that has not been chopped . The engine is a blown small block with an automatic transmission with a 12 bolt chevy rear end .

I have enclosed pictures of the coupe when he first built it and the way it looks now , the pics were taken today 9-10-10

I am asking all you HAMBers to help me and Barbara find the right value and a decent home for Blue-Boy . thank you jp

He's in Cali, though, so I'd bump up that estimation. Someone from California that's into 32s would be able to give you a ballpark figure on it. Also, it might be good to pop into the Deuce Owner's Group and see what they have to say.

  4. That black and white photo is cool! He looks ornery!

you could get 40k if you're not in a rush. the body looks relatively unmolested and was never chopped/ channeled.

It is very funny you say that , as kids we would trick-or-treat and Jim would be dressed up like a devil with the horns on and eerie music playing and hid behind bushes in the front yard and really scare the stuff out of all us kids !!!!!!

This was back in the late 70s when kids were still able to go outside without fear of getting ******ed up .

WHY would you say that? just because its in CA its worth more?:confused:

$20-$30k doesn't grow on tree's out here. id say, thats a fair value estimate for a '32 built in the 70's..... even in California.

I would suggest you tell her to get a professional appraisal. She would probably feel better about it and get a better idea than just varied opinions.

Could this be the start of the next big trend....

One of the easiest ways to value something is the 'bay. Get it detailed, HEAPS of pics, complete accurate description and let it rip. It will all be sorted in under two weeks and is probably the fairest way of doing it for her.

    Just a thought....

    from South Bay

A steel 3 window chopped by Rudy Rodriguez only hit 35k last week. A custom steel 3w from the late 60's never hit 23k. A HAMBer ended up getting it for probably 20k. I think 30k might be about tops consitering the tilt wheel, dated dash, mural etc. That said, it's still bad ***.

A way to do it is get a very detailed Ad with tons of photos to see what the car bids up to.

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay, and if you have a $100,000 reserve on the car, and it bids up to $35K, it's safe to ***ume the car's current value is $35K.

(***uming you have a descriptive Ad and good photos)

You can then decide if you want to sell to the highest bidder with a second chance offer.

Those "barn find" period cars are neat and people can get caught up in the hype sometimes.

Or pull the reserve if and when the bidding gets up in real world figures. You can always come down on price but it is hard to go up except if it is getting bid on by more than one guy who really wants it.

No disrespect meant... nor did I mean that people have more money, etc. I've gone to Pomona, bought parts in Nor Cal, and have paid attention to prices for things of interest to me (no 32s, yet) and categorically the costs seem higher. I think it's because there is a larger audience.

Now, I grew up in the North East and there weren't nearly as many people interested in early Fords (even compared to Utah). In fact, many times I'd be the only call on lots of early Ford stuff, and, the prices were less. Was that as a result, I'm not sure?

It's just an observation, that's all.

  22. if you would give 30 grand for the car then make barbara the offer, that is a totally fair offer on that car ( my opinion ) and would save a lot of time for her.... just my .02
why mess around with ebay and all the stroke jobs hiding on there....

I agree, If that money will satisfy her then why go to the trouble of ebay? Besides you have to give Ebay thier cut if it sells. As nice a start as this one is there is still a ton of money that will have to be spent to make it a "presentable" hot rod.

  24. while the hamb might be the golden rule on 32's, there is no reason that the car has to changed. It's a done 32. Hell, why even paint it? People spend BIG money returning these things to some period, and this one is already there.
Plus, look at the size of the guy in the bw photo. If he fit in it, there has to be more room than most have. At least this one isn't limited to midgets.

Agreed, and in a stronger economy I think it would have sold. With the amount of modifications and the fact the trunk is welded shut it's going to take a special individual who remembers those modifications and wants to relive his youth.

It is worth what some one will pay.......I would say its worth $25000 that is fair price for buyer and seller

  28. If I'm going to make a car period perfect it won't be the 70's.:D

JP If you offered her $25K I feel that most if not all here would agree its a good price for her and a good price for you, in other words a good deal. There has been a reasonably good 32 body advertised on here for a while now at $10K and last I looked it was still for sale. Maybe just ask her?

  30. Offer her 25k and help her sell the rest of her car stuff. I think that may be a fair trade.
