john walker, I have dug your cad project since i first seen it. Before seeing your project I always thought a caddy would made a cool woodie, yours just proves it. Even better that you are also in Seattle area like I am so I can see it once its on the road.. (if you ever open your garage to other hotrodders let me know I would love to come see your woodies, not enough of us in this area..

Mazdaslam, i am going to start messing with it again this winter.. its been in storage in Northern California for the past two years while I saved some money and built a garage. that is just about done and will allow me to dig into it.

de Kuijer, cool wagon, I have a 62 and would love to find a wood kit for it.(even a fiberglass one like yours would work)

  3. I haven't started mine yet but hope to start the frame this winter. I have all the basic pieces to assemble my phantom woodie. The other cars here are very inspiring and pieces of woodworking art thanks for the kick in the ass to get mine on its way. Rob.

havent yet.. but I know how..

front door leading edge is a laminated piece.. you have to create a form the shape of the trailing edge of the front fender.. and glue up a big wide piece once you get it to shape(to match the fender profile) you have to cut the shape of this lamination to match the curve of the rear edge of the fender.

not rocket science.. but tough to get exact..

ANd materials.. you gotta use the correct glue.. otherwise moisture will cause the laminations to separate.

I've seen A LOT of BAD wood.

many sins can be overlooked by the mystique of the wood itself..

Titebond III is the glue that I used its designed for waterproof seams on laminated wood, if you're thinking about doing your own wood check out Old Woodies.com and the National Woodie Club sites they have books available that can really help I lent all of my books to a member in our club but there is one that I'll get the name of and pm you on.That will help more than any thing out there.
