Since I've got a few on-lookers, here... Maybe someone can answer a brake line question for me.

I have two fittings in my brake line setup that have NPT threads. Do I use a sealer of some type for these or should I just rely on the taper of the fitting?

I'd use a tiny bit of loctite pipe thread sealer (white). Careful tho not to get inside. It's a teflon lube that hardens over time.

  3. Old SR71 Mechanic told me to use a tiny bit of antiseize.

Permatex makes a pretty good thread sealant.

I'm going to put the body on momentarily to build the exhaust headers and get my VIN inspection, but then it will come off again to get rid of all that yucky rust and finish up the body work. Inside needs to be painted and doors need to come off for final finish work. Body work also really needs to be done with the body mounted on the frame so the doors line up how they're supposed to and what not. So basically I'll take care of the underside with some stuff Limey Steve from Lime Works recommended, and then back on for final fit, finish, paint, and interior. WOW! That was fun to say that last bit!:eek::D

Which product. They make a ton! ;):D

Ya' know, after I read your reply, I think I've heard that before as well. Thanks!

Okay... have some of that too. Thanks!

I have a real old frame pass-thru fitting with female 1/8" NPT threads on both ends. So just don't want to make sure I get that all sealed up correctly. Thanks guys!

    Scott,
I have a couple of 1/8" npt fittings in my system and I didn't use anything on those. No leaks or problems.

Thanks Dan! I have it tightened down already without the goop. I think I'll leave it alone and try it first then.

  9. Wow! The chassis came out great! You have got to be so geeked to be at this point!

Holy smokes Scott, you got a painted roller! LOOKS AWESOME! I really had fun with that part of my build, it feels really great so finally see all your work come together. It REALLY feels good to actually bolt everything on for the last time-no more mock-up mode:D:D

Really proud of you bud, I bet you got a huge grin. Your paint work really looks great! What a pain spraying a frame. So many goofy areas to get paint into, and so easy to drag an airline across an area that you already sprayed:eek:

Now get off the internet & keep it going!

Thanks a TON for all your help and that's a huge compliment coming from you! You've been a huge inspiration and next I get to follow your tech on how to cut runs! HAHA! :D Have one that needs to go. But one isn't too bad considering what a MONSTER pain it was to paint that frame!

Thanks Dan!!!! I really appreciate it!! I saw your update as well! I need to hurry up! You're beatin' me to the street!! HAHA! :D

    Thanks Scotty!!

By the way, I want to send a big thanks to CraigR from Lime Works, for getting those shackles and bushings all set and ready! They are AWESOME! I appreciate your help! And especially thanks to Steve for his time while we were up there. Pictures coming! They were much better than last time too! Stay tuned for those!

Scooter, Wish my "A" frame was going together for the last time. Nothing like a freshly painted frame with nicely painted and detailed axles . . . . Mine still has some fab work before we blow it apart to blast the body so body work can be started.

Absolutely fantastic! A definite two thumbs
up! Please keep the updates and pics coming!

A suggestion for your consideration too. I
noticed in the pics, that that to
    accommodate the somewhat 'set back'
seating position, that the steering column
*appears* to be extended quite a bit
rearward, well into the door opening area.
I was thinking that to ease entrance and
exit, perhaps the steering column could
be made telescopic. You could probably
accomplish this by making the column in
two pieces, with a hollow outer 'slider'
tube fitted with internal (female) splines,
that would slide over an externally (male)
    splined, solid bar-stock internal section.
The steering wheel hub would attach to
the hollow external tube, with a transmission
driveshaft yoke, or the female section of a
    truck 'driveshaft slider' perhaps, supplying
the internal 'female' splines. This outer tube
could then slide back and forth as needed,
over an internal steering shaft fitted with
matching 'male' splines, that would be
hidden under the dash. You'd need to
fabricate some sort of a positive locking
device to 'lock' the column in the driving
position once you were seated in the car.
I think a lock could be fabricated by using
a spring-loaded pin mounted in the outer
column that would engage a matching
groove' machined into the male splined
section of the internal shaft. With the the
pin pulled back, the column could slide back
and forth as needed, to allow for easy exit
or entrance - and then when released and
the column extended to the 'driving' position,
the pin would automatically line up with and
drop into the groove, 'locking' the column and
preventing further back and forth movement.

Yeah! Tomorrow would be best, or next week if you want to see it with the body on. This weekend my parents will be in town visiting, so I'm hoping to recruit my Pop's to put the body back on with me. He helped take it off the very first time, so that will be a cool moment.

Orrrrr.... Just make the steering wheel removable. Which it is! ;):D

I really don't have any problems getting in and out... YET! If I keep eating the way I have been lately that may all change. HAHA! Cool idea, just the same! Thanks for the words!

That is way to ensure that very few people can get in the drivers seat. Some what of a theft deterrent.

    Thanks buddy!!!

Thanks Craig!! And YES! I have nice bushes! :D

I ended up just pressing them in the rear spring and letting them deform a bit. Then I reamed them back out. Pretty much went in without a hitch, other than that.

Parents were in town this weekend. My Dad couldn't wait to check things out. So, while I had him here I decided it would be the perfect time to have him give me a hand putting the body on. He was there to give me a hand when we FIRST took the body off when it still had four doors... So it was cool to have him here to be a part of it. My buddy Erik seems to have impeccable timing as well, and stopped over to drop a couple things off and gave us a hand as well.

Don't get excited... It's not staying on. I have to take care of title and registration crap, build some headers, body shims so the doors line up, etc. Then it comes off to undercoat it and finish some metal work inside and out.

I'm reluctant to even show these. The body is still very unfinished and the ocean air is REALLY been a battle since I stopped working on it to focus on the chassis.

    Thanks Paul!

I really need this done. Having a "Monday Moment" where everything looks just OFF to me. Going to take a break this week from it to get re-focused. I know things will look better as I finish them and more complete when I finish the exhaust and get the radiator fixed and the grille shell in place.

  29. I know what the problem is....

....it just needs body work and some paint. :D
