I have been going to the Shades even before it was the Shades. Gatlinburg in the 70's was fun but the city decided they didn't want us and Pigeon Forge was close. I love to go the the mountains but everything has to come to an end. I'm older and there are a lot of places I would love to see in my hot rod. Shade is good but it doesn't have to be The Shades.

Going to the zoo this year again, next year gonna try frank. The zoo always has a good swap area which is a plus.

Hundreds if not thousands of people go to Pigeon Forge,Tenn. and have never even been to the show area,,,It's a big car show at every motel parking lot, business, restaurant and all six lanes of bumper to bumper traffic.

The streets are lined for miles on both side with spectators watching the rolling show every evening.HRP

This is true. Only reason to go to the show is to win the 32 Ford, I guess.

See you on the streets. Dynaflash

OK...I'm plolly gonna get hammered for this...(disclaimer) - it's just my opin OK? I've been to the Shades/Pigeon Forge run a number of times. Went way back before the Grand Hotel stole the weekend and the name and after the Shades of the Past changed it. Anyone remember the water park? I remember the days when it was in Gatlinburg but never made that gig.

I just don't get all the hype about the "new era" Shades run. The old time cruizing is long gone. Pigeon Forge is a HUGE traffic jam. The cops are over-reactive, the motels **** everyone attending, and the Shades event itself is terrible and cliquish (and no, I don't, or ever have entered for a top 25 - ain't my bag).

Having said that, I haven't gone in a number of years...maybe it's changed...but from what I hear, it's the same or worse. Except for the '32 giveaway odds, I don't personally see any reason to attend a "new era" Shades event.

I haven't done the "Frank" but I have been to "the zoo." Although NSRA is a sore spot for me and others...K'zoo (IMO) is a much better rod run choice than the Shades.

    There...sorry I stepped on the Shades...just my .02

I have never been to the "shades". I went to the "zoo" for nearly 20 years, took a little time off, then went back last year, I probably won't be back again!

If you come to Bowling Green this Oct. better bring your snowmobile suit. It was freaking cold there last year!

We went to the Shades run for 15-16 yrs but stopped for many of the same reasons given by Scheib. Esp the motel prices. Now we go to a AACA show in Red Boiling Springs Tn. that has a 50+ yr history. Good place to peddle our jun uh good used parts. We had a lot of good times in Pigeon Forge ,swap meeting & our 1 time in the winners circle thanks in part to Scheib but it's all different now.

Plans are set in stone to attend at this point....Thursday and Friday off work, hotel reservation, weekend spent with Dad, etc, BUT if the weather forecast is for frigid cold we will probably cancel. Year before last we were in t-shirts and shorts so ya never know. Looking forward to seeing you there though.

That's me, go almost every year but have NEVER been to "the show" I'm worn out just walking the Boulevard.

AND the wife and I always stay in Gatlinburg - I check out the cars all day Fri-Sat while she shops the outlet malls, then we head out to the 'Burg for dinner at "No way Jose's"

So....... now that it's over... how was it? The zoo got rained out on Saturday, and there wasn't much there either. We didn't get to the Shades this year, so wondered how it was...
