i was thinkin the same thing but i wanna go fast and not spend a ton of money into a street motor lol and from what I've been reading flattys take money to go fast
well I'm open to other motors but bein I'm in south Louisiana findin something old isn't goin to be easy lol
If you want fast and cheap....SBC....They did come along in '55 and by the late 50's they could likely be found in a few rod projects. You could dress them up with finned old school valve covers and old school intake/carbs, lake style headers, etc.
well i started workin on the car a lil today and my cowl is wrapped real nice and instead of tryin to fix it, whoever done the work fixed it with bondo and alot of it...will post pics to get opinions later
Bondo, the trouble with that stuff is it can be used to hide a lot of problems. sorting out the metal takes a lot more work but its a lot more satisfying. Post the photos!
Nice start! Check out Keeper's build- he's going with a flathead Cadillac. Or a early OHV Caddy would be very period 50's.
Hmmm, looks similar to my recent build. "Fudge city!" Think of all the archeology you get to discover! The real sins seem to come late in the game, when somebody is clever at offering a "real steel" body.
I'm not gonna let it get me down but does aggravates me a lil that someone went thru all the trouble to make the bondo pretty instead of takin the time to do the metal work...
To some people doing the bondo work is body work. I had to cut out inch deep bondo and badly braised patch work along. Good luck with the project looks like a great start
I'm thinkin re-fudge it and just enjoy it. - You could sell it and get a virgin - but it will probably cost a lot more. Enjoy it for what it is. I can't remember the last time I saw a panel A. Neat!
yea its a trend ive come to hate...in my eyes if it aint worth doin right dont do it at all...so now ima spend the next couple weekend gettin the body down to metal so i can fix all the screw ups
A man after my own heart!, I came to the same conclusion thirty odd years ago and I have been trying to teach people the proper way to do things ever since through mag articles, teaching at college, seminars etc. I hate to see masses of filler on a 'steel' car- you might as well buy a glass body to begin with. Keep up the good work.
Fill it back in!!! LOL. i had one covered in filler. but after takin it all of found that it didnt need all of it. i think whoever had it before thought it was easier to coat the whole car and smooth out then fix the dents
especially when the car didnt need it in the first place lol from the way it looks so far the steel just needs some massaging i need to strip it down more but i keep puttin in long hrs at work to pay for the build up lol so it will take some time
hoping to start piecing the front suspension together soon...would love to have it atleast rolling and take it to the Lonestar Round Up in April...I'm thinkin model a axle, split bones, drum brakes...
looks like a damn fine start. could make a cool hot rod with some lettering in the sides where windows should be and toss some heads, intakes, carbs in the back for show lol
does anyone have any suggestions on a frame...I'd build one but with work i really don't have the time and i really want to get this thing rollin and maybe even drivin for April
not much of a update but I've been collecting some parts for the car got a major one in today thanks to Derrek over at Boling Brothers Early Iron
Looks interesting. Have you decided on an engine yet? A 292/312 that was tweaked a bit would push it faster than most guys would be brave enough to drive it. Or a 352 or 390, still in the late 50's realm of things engine wise.
