another whats it worth....My elderly dad met a guy he knew 30 years ago...turns out the 31 model a roadster he was building in 1980 is still sitting in this guys garage untouched since then. The body is an 8 out of 10. No patches! No top (who cares) fenders and hood are gone. Motor is a 289 hypo with a c4 tranny. Car is not running, but turns freely and the old timer says its good. Straight axel, split bones....9 inch rearend. body is channeled(probably an amateurish job). The firewall is a flat piece of stainless...circa 1980 and not very attractive....would need changing. Disc brakes up front, again the guy says they're good. all in all a solid car but needs redone..... I hate to be that guy, but what do i offer the guy. any help would be appreciated.
has a title.....guy wouldn't put a price on it...a little reluctant... my thought was 5k would be a great deal but dont want to offend him. Thats why i ask for the help. I'm not new to the hobby. Have owned a deuce and a few other early fords but I really was sttumped to what to offer the guy for the roadster
If you want to ask someone specific a question, why don't you PM them rather than asking in public? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=58767
Five grand is what first came to my mind. Titles are meaningless here in Connecticut but if you need one a guess that is a plus. Good luck, post photos when it's yours.
Amen to that. Too many variables. I got offered this one for 9K this afternoon on the way back from The Eastside vs West side flathead event. Fresh smallblock by a performance machine shop with a good rep, nine inch recently installed and disk brakes on the front along with new but ugly tires. Also clear title and I think the tags are up to date. It's a steel body local car that has been around the area for at least the last 30 years and probably a lot longer than that. The body might be suspect under the murals but they are at least 20 years old and maybe closer to 30. It runs and most likely could be driven anywhere. But, I don't have the cash or inclination to buy it.
The old dude is pondering it. Says he's not sure if he can pull the trigger. Offered him 5k....I'll leave him to his thoughts for a few days and give him another call. Figured if he was ready to let it go I'd offer him 7000. We'll see. Funny side note....my dad who is 80 thought 2000 was a fair price. Dad's had old rods all his life but the times have passed him by. He about pissed when I offered the guy 5k. He told me that in 1950 he bought a 34 roadster for 50 bucks while in basic before being sent to korea. He left it parked at fort benning when he left and never went back for it. wonder if it's still there lol.
If the body is straight, it alone is worth at least 5K. The rest is simply work that will need doing either way.
