I think it's great that she is interested enough to want to do the car. Trying to force your kids to take up your hobby often doesn't work and there sure seems to be a lack of teenagers into cars nowadays.

Good choice of car, simple and inexpensive for a young girl but vastly cooler and more popular than what all her friends will drive!

Im not too far away from being in this same possition..
my daughter isnt to keen on the cars of today either..
she keeps her eyes my 53 chevy, but maybe building one of her own would be a much better idea, father daughter time when that age comes around is scarce, so a good way to get in on that, and teach at the same time

Good on ya!, and tell her it looks kick ***

That's really cool. I think as a teenager, it's a lot easier to get involved when it's actually your project. I like a lot of what my dad and brothers are building, but you're always going to be more motivated to work on your own car.

So, since she's going to get to go show off with the Falcon of course she's going to want to get it done!

I say all that for the guys who have kids who aren't in to your cars. Maybe you should buy them one! :D

Anyway, it's a cool project and it sounds like your daughter is pretty cool. I also started college at 16.

Too cool! Nice to see a father and daughter with something in common... That just doesn't seem to happen very often these days!

I disagree. A guy i knew and sold parts to did that to surprise his daughter for her 16th birthday. He must have spent about $30,000 restoring a six banger Mustang convertible for her that she kept for a week before trading it to a friend for a clapped out Honda Civic with "a great stereo".

Another local girl got her grannies pristine 71 Pinto given to her. It was like a brand new car... for a week. Then it started getting dents, taped over taillights, broken mirrors, bent bumpers, crunched fender, broken grille. It was full of McDonalds litter. Six months later it wasn't around, s**** car pickup hauled it away.

What a great project, you are having something you can look back on for along time and smile about. Great bonding with your daughter.

we stripped the roof and guess what we found underneath the white paint? surface rust through out the roof except for those 2 bare spots. weird.

i DAed the whole roof with 8" & 6" 80 grit also used a 3M roloc wheel. then once i was satisfied with the results i used PPG Metal Prep on it with a scotch brite pad.

Awesome Dante. It's always good to see the younger generations show enthusiasm. Savor the time with your daughter.

when we picked up the car. the guy had mentioned that it was hit lightly in the back but nothing major. it was just sheet metal stuff. the deck lid was jacked but repairable. i just didn't want to spend that much time on it. so i gave a guy a hand who was cutting up a 61 falcon. as long as i helped i could take what i wanted. so i took the deck lid and the rear body panel plus a few extra things.

aligned the deck lid first to see how far things where. the 1/4 panels are pushed in 1/2-3/4" on both sides. the center was pushed in as well.

i roughed it in with the porta pwr for about 40 mins. "easy breezy, jap an easy"

the rear body was sort alright but i didn't want to spend much time repairing it. when i could easy replace it with a 61 rear body panel. now you'll notice a difference in the panel. notice the indent for your finger to lift the deck lid. i'll get rid of that later.

also i'm wondering if i should leave the gas filler hole. what do you guys think? i'm going to be welding up the side seam to give it a smoother look.

Nothing like keeping it in the family. My son never showed any interest either until he got to 16 then we did a 2 year restoration on his truck. Nothing was ever better than to be able to work with your kids and teach them the craft. It will also be a continued education for kids and parent alike by working together. Your Falcon project is looking good and I am sure she is very excited about the finished product. When completed you both will have something to be proud of the rest of your life and something she will never forget.

Awesome project and direction, I've never even heard of a 16 year old girl that's as put together and well grounded as your daughter is, you must be nearly impossibly proud. Can't wait to see what you two come up with for this Falcon.

gas filler necks on a falcon are small
you need to pump gas in slow or it splashes out on the paint

I would have to with Boones above on the surface; but the harsh reality of the situation is that she will be far more pissed off at the car trying to fill it through the rear panel than a trunk mount filler. If you have never tried to fill a Falcon with the newer pumps out there, you do not know the meaning of the word frustration. I converted mine to trunk fill about 15 years ago when the first wave of "world saving" pumps made filling the tank a half hour proposition.

I just pump slowly and fills up just fine. I keep a shop towel handy just in case but it's just fine.
