A little known fact how the USA did directly affect the "Battle Britain".One week before the air battle started the USA tanker Bunker Hill managed to dodge the U boats and deliver 100 octane heavily leaded USA made fuel. The Brits had nothing like this before, and it allowed a few more psi of supercharger boost giving another 250-300 hp to the Merlins. The rest is history

Ardun & Trucked-Up, I really enjoy seeing a bunch of guys get fired up about somethng that excites them and their patriotic streaks. THANKS for the details about how cutting-edge fighters were sneaked through Canada AND how the swap of Merlins for Aliosns came about. THAT's all fascinating stuff to know! Nobody can every seem to know every detail, which is what makes it a blast to kick things around!!! GREAT. Oh, and I didn't mean to leave Ausie and NZ pilots and crewmen out of the credit either. It a war unlike any in history -- one we HAD to win!

(Now, I need to go back and check out nearly 3 pages of add'l comments and pix that were posted in only about the last 12-16 hours! LOL)

Twin, if there are any AMC nuts out there, I know where there's a two-tone 4DS of one of those for sale and would only take minor work and paint to put at 99-point status.

    Meanwhile . . . a DIFFERENT kind of car:

Keen '30s shot of an abandoned Pennsylvania RR passenger coach. I ran across it on eBay. I don't know the seller; just passing it along. If interested, you can search, "Abandoned Railroad Car Exterior 1930s Photograph."

My sources say that the Spit first saw service in August 38 making it probably the longest serving I reckon ( I live two miles from where it was built & five from where it first flew ) & the Hurricane in Sept 42 I believe.

I have to agree. But having gotten to attend the opening of 'The Rare Breed' when I was a teenager, I kinda favor it somewhat.

    And then there's Harvey.

The Hurricane came out first in 1937, then a little later the Spitfire was produced. The Hurricane's shot down most of the bombers while the Spitfire was a dog fighter going after the 109s and 190s.

Love them old planes. There is an old RAF WW2 base about 4 miles from me.

    Daytona 62 Picture!

I believe that would be an early shot of Linda Vaughn right before her and Ol' Fireball Roberts hooked up?

    Gotta love Double Trouble 2

Thanks guys. The photos are great!

Now back to that mid-afternoon break with some Jack Daniels and a honeybun.
