As some of you may know we have a little race series over this side of the pond called the Flathead Meltdown. If you don't know then check it out here www.flatheadmeltdown.com Held twice a year this is open to any vehicle with it's engine valves where they belong, in the block! I have competed for a couple of years now with my little 21 stud pump in head powered truck purely to have a bit of fun as that is what the class is all about. Make no mistake there is some serious machinery involved though, we have had 3 cars run into the 12's in the past and all on bias-plys! Anyway, with the Hot Rod Drags coming up last weekend I decided to treat the motor to some of Don Orosco's beautiful repro Eddie Meyer heads and matching intake. Fitting them turned out to be a pain in the ass due to breaking off 8 studs but I try not to think back to them dark few days now it turned out ok in the end. So having run a previous best time of 20.5 seconds I was interested to find out if the nice new parts would make a difference. First run bagged a 19.001! Further runs over the weekend and a bit of tinkering resulted in a best time of 18.01 at a little over 75mph. To say I am happy is an understatement, the heads and intake have really woken the flatty up and I should be able to dip into the 17's once I upgrade the ignition side and make some exhaust headers. Have to say Don's service and advice was superb and I can't recommend his parts highly enough, oh and Eddie sure knew his onions too! A couple of pics. In the pits In the fire up lane At speed!
coming from one 32 pu build to another your truck is top shelf stuff!!! do you have any build pictures? what set up are you running for suspension? keep us posted on the progress!!!
My man! Definitely a cool truck and I love that you keep working at the flatty instead of putting something else in there.
Thanks guys means a lot. I can't take all the credit as it was put together by Steve and the gang at Limeworks. I imported it 2 years ago and have refined and rebuilt it the way I want it. Rear end is all 32 ford, axle, transverse spring, un split bones with the addition of tube shocks. Front end is 40 Ford drilled axle, spring behind and perches through the bones. Originally ran lever arms but I have switched to tube shocks on the front. Work loads better. For what I spent on the Eddie Meyer stuff I could have bought one of the French 24 studs that are still knocking around and gone a couple of seconds quicker! I have quite an affinity with that little 21 stud though I have a load of build pics Steve sent me. If anyone wants I can post a few up.
Glad you had a good weekend Gav, I know it was touch and go whether you'd even get the truck there. Any chance you're going to Prescott?
Had an awesome weekend mate. Truck feels really 'perky' so god knows what yours feels like! You will have to take me for a spin. Hopefully I should be at Prescott mate. Might be twiddling my thumbs on Saturday night though as I just realised virtually everyone else is booked up for a nice meal. I can always prop the bar up.

Cool, a drinking buddy. I will dig out some build up pictures of the truck. Probably stick them in a new thread.
