We're going and want to know if anybody got group rates for a local hotel or what the camping scene is like. Also, will there be an area for HAMBers? PM with any info.
    Thanks

Non sure about the hotels, but FREE camping the night before the show right on the Gilmores grounds. Two bands will be playing all night for participants. Space for camping is abundant so dont worry about having neigbors unless you want them.

Closest motels in Kalamazoo and Plainwell. Comfort Inn, Clarion, to name a couple. This is a rural setting, it's roughly 15 minutes to I-94/Sprinkle in Kazoo and likewise to 131/M89 Plainwell for motels. As Low Flying A said, free rustic camping on the Gilmore grounds, they do have limited electric.

  9. good news I can show up until atleast 2pm :)

Justing, you wont be disappointed. You may just find yourself calling into that other job. Isnt that what college is all about anyway. Just a thought. Glad to hear you can make it either way.

  12. I'm in the process of producing a hot rod/kustom DVD that should be released next spring, I got coverage from shows all over and will be in Florida in October for the Billerproof Drags...I can't stay at the Relix Riot long but I'll have my camera and will be shooting some footage...my question is, is there anyone interested in doing an on camera interview? basically shoot your car from different angles and have you talking in the back ground telling us the history of the car...get with me if this interests anyone

Sorry for the misunderstanding everyone! Gene Winfield himself will not be attending the show i believe he will be at the ducktail run?... however the 41 taildragger coupe will be.

As far as the vintage kacklefest is shaping up; The club had a few leads on having some early survivor dragsters come and put on a show for the crowd. Unfortunatly, prior obligations are preventing them to be able to make it. HOWEVER, we are still hoping for close club friend Dave Crane to be in good health enough to bring out one of his dragsters to share. Anyone who would like to display their nostogia dragster is also invited to do so.

No Gene, no kackle fest. Who's this bonechop113 clown? Does he even drive that shoebox? The weather looks to be good. Hope to see you all there.

The wait is killing me, last years show was awesome. Not to hijack the thread but I thought I'd show you guys a mock magazine I did for a class project based off last years show. As well as a vector of the wagon that I never finished.

well I was planning on going up. I went to the Ducktail from Indy and then headed north to Michigan Saturday afternoon, had to turn around and head back home. One of my rear tires and the rim has a bad shake to it. The rim is a tad bent and the Coker tire is out of round. I just had it balanced and there is 12 oz. of led on it, and at 55-60 it starts shacking the car. I am bumed out that I'm not able to make it, unless I can find a set to use.:(:( Please do not post any pics on this board so I won't see what I missed out on.:D

  27. I didn't end up getting to make it :( I hope to see a ton of picts!!

I dont get it.......I just dont get it.

Why is the Relix Riot not a HUGE show?

The place is amazing........The Gilmore Museum is one of the top five car museums in the WORLD.

    And it shows.

The stuff there is just incredible.

I am lucky enough to be able to go to shows all over the country and see what is good and bad about car shows.

Relix have it down. They know what to do and they are succeeding.

They keep the non traditional cars in their own section so they are a part of the show as well - so this way the guys with the 1992 billet wheels have their own area!

So if you see pix of those kinds of cars - yes they were there - but it was in their own special area - and this is exactly what other shows like Symco Shakedown have done, and what we will do with Torque Fest as well. 99% of the time the drivers are totally cool with it and they understand what is going on.

I really think this is an important aspect to future traditional shows........
by excluding all muscle or classic cars we are excluding potential hot rod owners.

Example - the guy that rolled up in his Nova said he was gonna sell it and try to get in some old pre ww 2 chevy.

This is great! Another hot rodder (loyal Chevy guy) that is simply changing gears is the way I see it.

He is tired of being sure that there is no dust on his bright yellow paint. He does not want to worry about his kids banging their bicycles against the car when it is in the garage. He wants to have FUN with the new car and not worry so much about polishing the ride. If more and more people have that change of mind to having FUN......then I think that is a good thing.

The entire club made everyone feel at home and there were some really nice rides there.

There was a pretty decent turnout for spectators and the total car count was around 225-250 from what I could gather.

This does NOT include ALL the rides that are a part of the museum.

Again - this show was great from the time I rolled in at the pre party, to the time I rolled out with the Twistin Tarantualas laying down their version of Ace of Spades. Next year - I will be back!

Perhaps 2011 will see a date change so that the Gas City / James Dean run does not conflict!
