I just picked up a Jewlers Torch and bunch of other welding junk. with the Help of Air-Gas I found adapters and blowback supressors so I don't blow myself up. I want to start welding sheet metal and it came with a 00 tip. My problem is the tip is clogged. I tried cleaning it with my pin but it won't go in. What size orafice is a 00 tip so I can pick up a tiny drill to open it back up. I don't know how long ago UL stopped making these and the other tips that came with it are 3 and 4, way too big. The picture shows my bulky Radnor/Victor next to the little new one.
The 00 will work good on sheetmetal. You need to get a tip cleaner. I'm not sure what the orafic size is. It's not a real good idea to use a drill to clean the tip. It can wear away at the orafic. Looks like a handy little torch. I picked up a Smith micro jewlers torch and like it alot.
Hey, Try this- take your wire torch tip cleaner and measure the one rod that comes closest to fitting the OO tip. Purchase that numbered bit and fit it into a pin vise. put the tip in a vise and gently tighten,then take a fine tooth file to it very lightly and you will see the original hole eventually then use a tip cleaner to open the hole.then take a blow gun and blow out the p***ge form the same side you filed on and any slag will come out the other end.dont use a drill because youll put grooves on the inside and when you weld you will get turbulence from the ox. and acet.gas and will result in weld puddle control problems.any welding store should be able to get a tip as long as it unscrews from the torch body.
Thanks guys. I got it to clear after repeated pokings with the tip cleaner. It still seems as if something is inside the tip, the flame is a little crooked. I'll try soaking it in thinner and see if it breaks up what I ***ume is a chunk of carbon. Thank You.
