...just got my 2010 Dec. issue and pages 23 thru 38 & 71 thru 86 are missing...they aren't rippped out, never were included;...anybody else get one like this or is mine special? ...I went to the customer service website and reported it.
Mine was soaking wet and looked like they drug it along the sidewalk, the ink was completely rubbed off in a few spots.
Well I think yours might just be special, mine has all the pages you're missing plus all the ones you do have! You'll just have to borrow someone els'es copy. Good luck.
while all my Rod & Custom pages are intact, it sure feels like something is missing. Maybe it's because I picked up Traditional Rod & Kulture at the same time. Rod & Custom feels like it is printed on toilet paper.
OK. Read a book and this issue. I have an addict of history for a teacher in Dan Webb. Happy to have him as a teacher/builder. Read more and listen to those who really know.
I have been reading Rod & Custom off and on for over 50 years. The current version is a shadow of it's former self. And the most recent issue could not hold my interest for more than 15 minutes. The new rags are trying harder and doing a better job. But what do I know? I was in the hobby when today's traditional was the latest thing and R&C was on top of it all.
All the pages showed up here on the Ridge in good shape. Not the rag it used to be but then again I have no desire to go back to HS just so I can read my hidden little pages either. Improving a bit from just a few years ago. Did pick up some home build tips and ideas I can convert for other projects from the recessed firewall article. Ed
No way! What a coincidence! Mine only has pages 23 thru 38 & 71 thru 86!! Quick read up and then we will swap! Just kidding, I hope they send a new one! Doc.
About half the time mine arrives in a plastic bag because all the post office has left are bit and pieces.
Mine is Ok but I will not "Re-up" to it, Street Rodder or Car Craft !!!! They are all good only for mixing paint on for striping !!!! They also are just selling parts that no one can afford now. Ok Now if I have some time I will tell you guys what I realy think !!!! LOL.Have a good day.Tom ( Tired Old man)
Their cut-rate printer sent a bad piece out the door, which I've seen more of over the years as the Source Interlink managers (and earlier versions) cut costs. Most magazines are printed in 16-page forms, then bound together before they leave the printer. I received a HRM a couple of years ago with and duplicate form -- it had the same 16 pages twice. This happens when these publishing companies have to cut costs and they go to cheaper printers, cheaper paper, cheaper ink. This low-rate printers get these contracts by sending **** out the door. In the industry it's known as sending 'waste' out the door. That's also why many issues have photos out of register, etc. A printer that is printing millions of pages a week and increase profits by cutting 'waste' by a couple of percentage points. That results in **** going out the door. Whenever I get this junk, I spend the money to mail it to the editor, not the circulation people, because the editors are the only ones who care about the quality. But they have no influence because the bean counters are making the decisions. Every time that I've mailed the junk to the editor, I receive a replacement copy. Those guys do care.
You're "mostly" right--except you left out the part of the ****py printers hiring incompetent workers, which was the case with the issue of R&C in question. As for contacting the editor--at least for those wishing to as opposed to complaining in an open, irrelevant forum--that's the only way I know you'll get honest customer service. Speaking of not having any influence, ironically, due to my not only being aware of, but staying on top of this recent **** printer error, I did have quite a bit of influence--enough to have a number of positions "opened" and the system in which the issues are bound totally restructured. That still leaves the thin paper, not enough pages, etc...but I ain't giving up just yet!
...I got on the R&C website, reported the deal and had a new complete magazine in about a week or so. I still like R&C but sometimes there's not much to it, other times it's all great.
Sam, glad to hear R&C took care of you. I just received one this week missing the top staple. It must be a new cost saving measure for them.
Yer killin' me too! Almost spit my coffee out. And yes, I know this is an old thread. I still thought it was funnier than hell.
Actually, mine has extra pages, and come to think of it, this has happened before --- usually right around Halloween -- right wing conspiracty -- where would you like them sent?
If you email them they will send out a fresh one asap. I got an issue a while back that was fubar and after I emailed them I had a new copy in 5 days. Or hit up Fortier, he's on here and I'm sure he would ammend the situation immediately.
