As many of you guys know i traded draglinkscc my nugget (1950 chevy p/u) for the greenbean (1923 T bucket). well everything is kool with the trade but now the great state of texas is jackin with me. the car is ***led as 1923 t in florida but when i went to transfer the ***le into my name in texas there was already a car with the same vin # registered here in texas. the cars was ***led off of the number on the motor in florida and registered as a 1923 ford model t. so i had to go today to get the car inspected by a state trooper to get a new vin ***igned. he tells me that the car is going to have to be registered as an ***embled vehicle built in 2004. this means i'll have to add catalytic converters, additional brake lights, turn signals, and get it inspected and registered every year now. i guess, besides just wanting to vent, i would like to know if anyone else has had to deal with any ******** like this or if there is another way i can go about ***eling this car? For the record i am not pissed at draglinkscc at all and i'm stil proud to be a TEXAN. just want that understood. bubba mad
Just about the same thing happened to me when I moved here from North Carolina, bringing my 52 Chevy with me. I had to go through the deal with the cop inspection, too, and they had to ***ign me a new VIN, which had to be stamped onto my engine block. (Supposedly TX uses the engine block serial # as the VIN on certain makes of older cars.) I had to provide info on how I acquired the motor and all, and thought they were gonna tell me I had a 74 Chevy pickup with a 52 Chevy car body and frame on it. Anyhoo, I can't remember how it all went down, but now I have a ***le for a 52 Chevy with a state-***igned VIN now. I know I was pulling my hair out for a few weeks there.
i know they go strictly by the motor up to 1954. i guess thats when car manufacturers started ***igning vin numbers and vin tags seperate from the moter. how did you get it ***led as a 52 though? b
Move to Oklahoma! We don't have no stinking inspec-t-yo-nnee here. **** state inspectors and their catalytic converters and ****! There is a way around all that ********. Someone has had this problem and knows a way around it! Who the **** has your vin #? I bet it's Boom Boom! Good luck man! monkey
Would it be possible to "sell" it to a buddy who lives in a state where they issue ***les based on the "year the vehicle resembles" or by the year of the engine, get the new VIN, then have him sell it back to you once the paperwork comes through? Just a thought.
Lemme see if I can go through my paperwork to see if it jogs my memory. All I remember is trying really hard to play their game even though they changed the rules (or at least their interpretation of them) at every move. I just remember that I had to make several trips to the County Tax ***essor's office (in Carrollton for Dallas Co.), as well as a couple more to my local branch in Mesquite. I'll see if I can look up what forms need fillin' out and all. I remember most of them were online, so that mmight help.
See, this is what is stopping me from building a car right now...too many horror stories in Texas as of late with these kinds of issues. The people at the DMV are some of the lowest form of humans I have ever run across...you can't get answers and nobody will help you. No common sense either. You go in with a real T with rust and all and they want to count it as a new car...freaking *****s. Thank god all my cars had ***les...and so much for building a Brookville car in Texas anymore. Texas has been following the CA model on this and it getting ready to pull the same stuff they did in CA a few months ago on us from what I am getting from someone I know whos relative works for the DMV...freaking greedy idiots.
Have you thought about maybe trying to purchase another tilte.I know they are not cheap but it may be less of a headache than what they are putting you through. I bought my car from that guy at the swap meets that runs the modal a restoation parts in I think Odessa. I think they are called Richnonds. My car was pushed home but it had a ***le with current tags. Not sure how he did it but I had no h***els at the DMV transfering into my name. I can get more info on the guy later tonight if you want and maybe he can give you some info on what you can do.

I used those guys to get ***les for scooters in the past - money wise it just about equals what the Great state of Texas charges - except that you don't have to do a bonded ***le or any other BS.
I would worry that I was marked, and that any other ***le I presented for that vehicle would get me in serious trouble, fast. Here in Illinois, it's no different. Years ago I bought a '64 Falcon Squire wagon. When I went to ***le it, I noticed that the previous ***le service (a currency exchange), had put 'sedan' instead of 'wagon'. So, I took the car, the Ford service manual with the VIN breakdown (this letter means wagon, etc.), and the old ***le to the DMV. I thought I was gonna have this one ripped. Wrong. The dimbulb clerk informed me that she could not change it, even though it was obviously a typo on the previous application. The overwhelming evidence that the car was a wagon didn't make one iota of difference to her. The proposed solution?? Take the car to the State Police for an inspection (one that arguably could be done by a 55mph driveby...) and return with all the proper paperwork filled out in triplicate, bla, bla, bla. I told her I'd just leave it as is. She told me I could get in trouble. Guess she was right, I eventually got married, no fault of the Ford's, though... I shoulda got a job in civil 'service': you're set for life; you don't have to think; you can't get fired; and you don't have to DO anything, really... Cosmo

I tried to use the YOM plates I got for the '62 last week. Well I got the same dimbulb. Didn't know about YOM and thought I might have to send them to Austin. What, you think, you don't know! We they want me to take a day to stand in line in Denton, then send $15 to Austin, and then come back at some point and they will ok me to use these plates. Two trips to the Denton Tax and **** know how long austin will take. I wanna drive this 'bird next weekend to the M***acre. issed:

Here is what we do !!! we just put on the year plates as the car and dont drive stupid the police wont mess with you . Than get legal after the M***acre !!! Dirty used my antique plates for a month !!
As said before buy yourself a ***le.. You won't need an inspection or anything if you buy a Texas ***le. Not a ***le from another state. Most DMV's will accept ***les from out of state only if they inspect the car. Don't give them a chance to inspect it. Buy a Texas ***le and after that its a matter of paperwork with no inspections.
Or move to Cali. You can drive a roadster rear round , nice weather, no inspections, Just the cost of living is 4 times as much and you dont have a garage !!
Ive used ITS-***LES.COM many times with great results and is 125 dolla's.......we have a yearly state inspection here in Mo.-and if a ***le is sent in for a car from another state we are required to get an ID/OD form filled out by law officer -OR we can just get it "inspected" at our buddys garage and sidestep that ********....

For my gl*** 32 i just bought a 32 ford ***le from the guy who advertises in street rodder. His ads are the little boxes that say "need ***les?" and just has a phone number. He sent me a reciept of sale , like i bought a car from him, the ***le and a blank vin plate. Im about 95% sure it will work here in IL. i would think it would work in Texas too? Nick
OK, Bubba, here is what I got. I had to fill out this form , which has been revised a little since I did it in 2002. It basically goes on the premise that the car has been rebuilt, not recently manufactured. According to this page you no longer need the cops to inspect your car or get a pencil rubbing of the motor casting # or VIN that you and I both mentioned earlier. Hope this helps.
