westcoaster mailster.......maybe i'll get into the ice cream business! how should i power this thing? couldn't pass it up for $100, but now it just sits next to other projects.
That needs to go back to original as a Postal Delivery vehicle. It is a part of history, at least do the body in the red, white, and blue.. I am a little partial being a Postal mechanic. I would love to have that in my tin pile. We had an original 29 AA Postal truck in our shop and it was a real timepiece. I was honored to drive it in some parades.
I've got a really nice 4 wheeler engine with about 80 horse that would really be a good fit for that "car"
Fix it up and sell it back to the Post Office. The way they blow money, you could probably make a mint off of them.
i was thinking along those lines too. it's really lightweight--fiberglass RAND body, so maybe a mid-sized honda@
What does the engine compartment look like? I'd say that affects your choice a bit. I'd be compelled to try and squeeze a VW air-cooled engine in if it has room for it. It wouldn't be the right motor but it'd be from the right period. A Corvair engine would be neat, but I was never a fan of the accessory drive and felt it added unneeded complexity. Throwing caution to the wind, a modern bike motor (as previously stated) would give it some scoot.
The Sin of Onan For centuries the Christian churches of various persuasions have identified the sin of Onan with masturbation and identified this act as the reason for the fact that the Lord slew Onan. This has become part of secular myth and entered the language in specific terminology. The Universal Oxford Dictionary defines Onanism simply as deriving from the proper name Onan and being self abuse or masturbation. Enough said....
There is a high percentage chance that you are wrong about it having been Onan powered. These came from the factory with a Cushman horizontally opposed OHV two cylinder air cooled motor.
Didn't OMC buy out Cushman? I guess OMC and Onan sound pretty similar.... Anyways, I still need to figure out what to do with my Truckster....I have the Husky engine, but it needs a new head and the clutch is toast.
What to power it with?? Hmmm??? How about one of these??!!! www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5634632&postcount=184 They're probably all gone at that price though Mart3406 =========================
My uncle has a 63 with an Onan CCK series... maybe the Cushman was just a badged Onan... 2 cyl hor opposed as stated before...
For the time being, I would take the front wheel and suspension out from under it. Then find a way to install a tongue without destroying the truck and make a trailer to pull behind a 1942 GMC. Put a quick paint job on it. Then one day you'll run up on a engine and you can convert it back. Use it now and fix it later.
