Just leaping back a ways to the discussion about WWII and the Battle of Britain. Most people think (Through no little part by the movie of the same name) that the Spitfire was the hero of the Battle. This is not true, the Spitfire was at that time so new to the RAF that there were very few of them operational at the time.
It was the humble and much forgotten Hurricane that was the backbone of the Battle and shot down more than double the number of enemy aircraft than the Spit.
It was also the polish that led the 'kill' boards in the Battle, I guess they had something to prove?

Another thing that few know about WWII is Australian aircraft were the first of WWII to wear the 'Sharkmouth' that seems to be attributed to the 'AVG' (Flying Tigers). Both on P40s and on Spitfires.

As for the Tornado? In WWII there was only one aircraft named so. This was the twin to the Hawker Typhoon. Both prototypes were designed by Sir Sydney Camm and built by Hawker in 38/9 as a 'advanced' replacement for the Hurricane.
The Typhoon with the Napier Sabre 'H' power plant and the Tornado with the RR Vulture X style motor. RR canceled the troublesome X type motor project to concentrate on the Merlin, thus prompting the Air Ministry to cancel the Tornado. Only one prototype was ever built.
Ironically the Typhoon obtained fame as a ground attack aircraft rather than as a fighter. It was the most devastating single engined ground attack aircraft of the Allies in WWII.

Abbe Lane and Cugie on TV in the Fifties,yes i remember it well!Also look at the XK Jag in the background,it's not a Fixed Head Coupe,it appears to have a removable hardtop which i've never seen before.

I've held off 'til now, but DAMN, there is just no comparing real, feminine, women to the molded, sculpted, stuff of today. I especially hate the "toned" or "buff" look. They look like small boys.

 

She looks like a brunette and way more beautiful in that black and white poto.
