Hot Rods '33 Plymouth mocked up

More to add! Got my supersweet chrome wheels on, and couldn't be happier!! Finally got a fire under my butt today and chopped the grille. 7 1/8 inches out of it trying to make it look right. I think I succeeded. My daughter had to pose of course! Next task is chopping the insert. Headlight bar is gonna have to be low for good proportions, but that will come later. Mock ups are good and bad... Now I want to drive it.......











By the way, the wheels are only rollers

Well my back is really messed up so I haven't been doing too much recently other than take pills and stare at the walls.... The new therapy is helping immensely and I'm actually able to do things now!! Here are a few pics of what I've been up to.
Took the body to bare metal to work out the few rough spots


Chopped the grille insert, which wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Cut up a good set of '36 bones


Got the rear end located and where it needs to be. Had a two day battle with the damn spring, but I was finally victorious.


And of course I had to set the body on to see if my measurements were correct!
Now it's starting to look like a hot rod!!


Destroyed a perfectly good headlight bar.




And finally called it a weekend. The car is leaning a little since there are no U-bolts on the springs. It looks crooked, but it's mathematically correct!!!
I need to keep the body on to get a few little things situated, then I blow it apart to finish weld everything.

 

I am so intensely jealous. 33-34 Mopars are on the short list of my dream cars. Good to see some great work on one of my favorite rides.

 

Thanks for the kind words Don! I love 33-34's too (of course!) I'm from Berwick, not too far from you. Been in CA for 10 years now but at times it's nice to get back to PA to visit. Have a Yuengling for me, I can't get them out here.

 

this is a totally sweet looking car. it's alot more interesting to look at than a '33 ford!

 

Thats really looking great! Somewhat close to my build- 33 Plymouth coupe on a 29 A frame and 40 Ford front end. I am using mopar running gear though. Man i wish my body looked that good!

Rich, you bet she is! It's impossible to keep her out of the garage! At 5 years old she does really good. Here she is helping me tear down the mini bike engine

 

Haha, no kidding! I live just outside WB, I'm only about 15 minutes from Berwick. On a clear day I can see the steam from the nuclear power plant rising over the mountain by my house. I don't drink, but most of my buddies pass on the Yuengling nowadays, since Lionshead from WB is the hot shit. Just about everyone I know loves it, and it's dirt cheap.

Neato ! Love the stance , and I was going to say the only thing spoiling the flow was the cap hole in the grill shell , but you already fixed it !

Josh...love the stance of your '33 ! I am hoping to get working on mine one day soon. Seems it is more difficult to get that low down stance with the earlu Mopar duel elipticals so I may have to go with the Ford transverse setup. So...you are from Berwick? Ever poked around in Ed Spencer's yard....do you know his son the famous Nascar Jimmy?

 

Looking good, I have a roadster pickup body I made out of one of those cowls and two doors, the rest I fabbed up from scratch.

Are you going to have enough room for a radiator?

 

I have been to Spencer's yard about 12 years ago. I remember riding through the yard with my dad and one of the workers in a shitbox subaru they clapped together for yard duty. I thought the yard guy was chewing on something, then come to find out it was his tooth the whole time! His teeth were so messed up, they stuck out of his lips! My dad and I still joke about it when I visit PA. Man, the little crap we remember!!

I don't know Jimmy personally, but usually, when people leave Berwick, they don't come back!!

I think I have one of your threads bookmarked when you made the RPU..

A radiator will fit, but it's gonna be a small one. I have all the depth clearance in the world but severely restricted by height. That's gonna be an expensive hurdle to jump when the time comes.

 

Perfect channel - the hood sides fit just exactly over the frame rails.

 

Thanks so much for the compliment, but I can't take credit for the channel. The floor structure was done by the previous owner, very good friend, and hot rod mentor Royalshifter. I am finishing his vision so to speak, and hopefully he will be happy to see the final product. Once again, I appreciate all the kind words.

 

Makes me miss my little 33Plymouth I drove for 16 years. Still have the grill insert and taillight off of it somewhere in the garage. Always have loved those cars.
