Motion guru, I just sent you a message on eBay and I'm truly sorry. To all others watching this I'm also sorry.

I've ended the auction early. I was selling this item for a friend as you all know from this thread, and have learned that this item may actually be stolen.

I've delivered it to authorities and we'll have to see how this pans out. I'm sincerely sorry about this, and if we can get this resolved I will eventually repost this. This is NOT a position I want to be in, to let anyone down, give false hope or expectations, or to be in possession of stolen equipment. Thieves are the s*** of the earth!

Again, I'm sincerely sorry. Especially to you Motion. I know it would be in good hands if you were the winner, but if it is INDEED stolen it belongs in the hands of the owner I think you'll agree. Sheesh, I sure as hell don't want to be mixed up in this... I was just trying to help a friend!

I'll post more as I know more. Again, sorry to everyone.

Seems kinda weird that, according to your first post, he would have this stuff for 20 years and just now find out they may be stolen??? Strange indeed

Absolutely. Imagine how I feel right now! From the beginning I was trying to do "the right thing", then this happened. If I can help the rightful owner get his stuff back (if it is indeed stolen) then I've succeeded.

Alright then - Somebody is gonna own it for whatever its worth.
The question remains, is the guy going to install it and run it?
I sure hope so and that he will brag about it with some pictures and maybe some clips.

When you write stuff, you have to be careful that it doesn't come back to haunt you.

Since you have done the right thing after all these years of knowing this person that you are selling it for, but somehow just before the end of the auction you learn that its stolen, I'm sure you will gladly tell us the name of the authorities that you have given these stolen parts to so we can verify your story. I am very skeptical of all this.

I want to call the police department that has these items to verify that these are now being treated as stolen parts. After all, you've done the right thing and have nothing to hide...right? So who is the investigating officer and what department has these? Or should I just start with the Sheriff and Highway Patrol and see if they can help?

I smell fish and it's not fresh.

So Daddio, which authorities did you deliver these parts to please do tell?

Haunt me? How so? I was looking to purchase the stuff to build a Jimmy engine for my dad. When I realized what is was worth (and I was trying to pin a fair value on it) I also realized it was out of my league. This stuff belongs on a block and in a car worthy of its heritage.

And what exactly do I have to prove to you? Who exactly are you, and exactly why do I give a **** what you think?

Nothing to hide at all. There are individuals here on this thread that know precisely what's transpired and I'm grateful for their ***istance.

Cry foul all you want. You think this is a joke? You think I started this for attention or to be popular? NO, I started this as an honest investigation and got wrapped up in something that I certainly never intended of being a part of. This isn't something to brag about or be proud of, I'm honestly embarr***ed and sorry for stringing those along with a genuine interest in it.

You have given us everything except the answer. Your get out of jail free card is the name of the "authority" you gave it to and the investigating officer. You have chosen to attack me instead of giving the answer.

Who am I? I am a bidder on your parts who was waiting to the end of the auction to place my final bid. I am a person who doesn't use internet bulletin boards to concoct a story so I can treat people like chumps and think they will believe me.

Daddio, you can't tell us because these parts are still right where they have been all the time, but you needed a ******** story to cover your ***.

That's who I am and we all now know who you are. Thank you for clarifying that. Of course, you could simply provide the information and then I would look like the chump but that is clearly something you cant do. So here's your chance to make me look like the chump in front of all the HAMB nation. Fire away, make me a chump.

When you play games with people, they will play games with you. Yes, it does look like Col Mustard with the candlestick in the library unless you give us all the clue.

I just read the whole thread, very interesting and entertaining. I bet those two teenage sleuths, Frank and Joe Hardy, could solve the mystery.

Bingo! Now just how BIG of a douche bag do I look like? I'm on my way over to his house right now to offer my apologies for even my "minimal" involvement.

Fellas, I feel like the world's biggest ***hole.

Regardless of how Zeke feels about me after I stop by, I can take pride in knowing I was instrumental in returning stolen equipment to its rightful owner. Zeke is a 12 port NUT and rest ***ured that this stuff is in good hands.

Oh believe me, its crossed my mind. I've talked to a number of people who know all parties here, and it looks like everything will work out well. Collectively we even figured out who stole the stuff to begin with. Conveniently he's in prison right now.

I'm out $30 or so to list the auction, plus a lot of time. Getting stolen goods back to the rightful owner was worth every penny and every second.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Oh, and Zeke didn't answer his door.

    Amazing Is what I say!
And people complain about what happens to stuff.
I believe the story, I believe the results, and I believe that the right thing was done.
Everything else is smoke up the chimney.
If you had sold the stuff, and a buyer here on HAMB had bought it, I wonder what he would have thought when the POLICE came and took it away from him! And left him with no way to get the money back!

And that's EXACTLY why I closed the auction with 2 1/2 days to go. I closed it to protect all parties: potential buyer, my friend who asked me to list it, and the suspected correct owner. As soon as I closed it I emailed the two bidders as well as all who had contacted me through eBay regarding it. I then jumped on here and sent the high bidder (also a HAMBer) a PM, posted on the thread, and actually called him at work to explain what had transpired.

Is there a more correct way to do this? I didn't think so either. Thanks Traderjack.

The inline engine performance community is a small community. Accordingly, there are lot more eyes on any auction for a rare performance item than the average person might realize unless they've been bouncing around the community for decades and know the people that would pursue an item like a rare vintage cross flow head.

I look only at the facts in evidence and based on that, little of what has been written here adds up, and the reluctance to provide verifiable facts only adds to the workload for Frank, Joe, and Nancy Drew.

The story went from 1) trying to determine a fair price in order to buy them from the "owner", 2) to trying to determine a fair price to sell them for "the owner", 3) to putting them on an internet auction site for the benefit of the owner, 4) to suddenly discovering that they were stolen (heavens to Besty), 5) to handing them over to the authorities, 6) to now they are returned to the person from whom they were stolen and someone doesn't answer their door so the final statement could not be provided.

When the story keeps changing, it makes you wonder.

Hey, we should all thank Al Gore for inventing this internet thing so we could be part of the game. Try to change the rules 6 times on a sale like this in the parking lot at Pomona and see how far you get.[IMG]

It looks like the op handled this pretty well really. And everyone wants to dogpile him.

Ignorance is bliss. If you're gonna try and give the guy a hard time at least refrain from ignorant comments like this. I can take your words out of context as easy as the press had taken his. But then again what should we expect from someone that never did their intro.
