Went out for lunch today and ordered from the menu and sat down to wait for my meal. In just a few short minutes they call out #409. Well I didn't look at my number when they gave it to me so when I heard the number the first thing that came to mind wasn't is that mine or anyone else's. It was the engine 409. I do that alot when I hear 216, 235, 292, 265, 283 and so on. Am I the only one ?
Nope, I do it all the time. I try to use engine displacments to remember numbers, not just Chevys either. Works for me most times.
At the Diner here they used to serve 409 chili....hot stuff! I was 292 for lunch at taco bell today. Didn't know if it was Chevy or Ford.
I had one that I saved the receipt on. I was buying saran wrap to close up a 408 inch engine that I had just finished for a friends car, and we were going to go set it in in the morning, and the cost of 2 rolls of saran wrap plus tax was 4.08. Also alot of the time iwth digital clocks I make a little mental note...
I was #302 at Taco Bell last Fri. I remember from 12yrs ago an adress of a customer....426. Weird people we are.
I do it all the time, our house number is 423, 3 or 4 numbers off... I also do it with Ammo too.... 3006, 308, 270, 500, 243 etc...
Oh yeah....Applegate Chevrolet is customer #500472.....Cadillac engines!! Al Serra Chevy is 301237....I just remember that one for no reason at all....
it the gin mill we used to hang at when some one threw money in the juke box all that was said was 283 or play the chevy........fire on high by elo
Yes I also do it all the time. I work in research and have to record numbers. When ever one of the numbers hits an engine size or old car year I notice. I was going to start a thread but figured I'd get laughed off the HAMB. Glad I'm not the only one. 807 is another number. In ham radio speak that is a beer. From what I understand an old amplifier tube with the number 807 resembled a beer bottle. Bill
My buddy Mr. Buzzard's address is 650 Holly, in Atwater...he really lives there. Numbers really stay in my head too...the week before, wife and I were grocery shopping, and the total was $77.34. I told the checker, "7734, huh? Turn THAT over upside down and it looks like hell." She looked puzzled, but turned the receipt over and exclaimed loudly, "IT DOES! IT DOES!" Johnny Gee's number is just Murder!
Used to weigh shipping crates at work, it was amazing how many engine numbers came up..especially if you're older like me and remember some of the more obscure ones! (think Packard, Studebaker, Rambler, etc.)
I remember phone numbers by years of cars....when I get change from some place if its a motor size can't help but say its a bad motor, thats just funny
Thought maybe you raced a guy in a car that had a 409, and "cleaned his clock". LOL. Yes, do notice the coincidental engine-sizes that come up. "That'll be $4.27, sir."
my dad's keno numbers.. 15-36-24 (ford straight 6 firing order) 15's to young, 36's to old, 24's just right..
I worked at a hotel and would do room services, I would always write down the room number unless it was an engine displacement cause they were easy to remeber. Take this up to 351. W or C? What? Nevermind... Ryland
Im constantly doing that... 4:56 on a digital clock, 5.38 on a receipt...my neighbors house number is 427 (Ford or Chevy?) and mine is 430 (Lincoln). Phone numbers with a gear ratio or an engine size are much easier for me to remember!
thats funny I went around for almost a year racking my head trying to remember what 18436572 was I knew it was importent but was having a total brain fart. Lol
Most of my passwords have displacement numbers as the key. For some obscure reason I think I'm more secure using the number I got after a bore/stroke.
Funny Reading This I laffed just this AM! I have a 37 chevy PU & you have to lift up the seat to put gas in it! Anyway The old man who owned it drove to high school when he was 18 & passed away when he was 68! In 1957 he put a 56 265 V8 in it ol school style sawed the 2 bell housings in half & welded frt half of V8 to Back half of 6 Cyl! Very old school type truck! Anyway where this is going is hard to get gas it tank without clicking off! I started filling & right away Click I looked & $2.65 I keep filling & know it will take more & click 2.65 gallons! Maybe old truck proud of its V-8
