Andy Griffith - "Hot Rod Otis"

Flipping through the channels after football and saw the program title..

Otis bought a 33 or 34 healthy sounding roadster "that he always dreamed of"... I guess Otis and I have a lot in common.

Suffered through the whole show and they only showed the car twice

 

Wonder what the license plate state is from ???

I think it's a 33 from that pic... one hood handle. 34's had two. And yes, a Cabrio, not a roadster.

 

I belive the show was supposed to be in North Carolina wasn't it?

 

That's because Otis was usually too drunk to drive...

 

I feel for ya if you really feel that sitting through an episode of the Andy Griffith show is suffering....That sir is quality television.

 

Yup, based on Mount Airy NC. The patrol cars drive through town all the time, they give tours in them.

 

Yeah...I watched it thru puberty. Aunt Bee scared me to death!

 

Agreed...quality TV indeed. I have seen these episodes..56,876 times...love em. Show me someting better.

The only way I'd watch Andy Griffith would be if the ghost of Evel Knievel jumped the Snake River Canyon in Stu Hilborn's Streamliner.........even then I'd have to think about it.

 

I watch it because everybody in Mayberry drove a brand-new Ford or Mercury. The economy of small towns must have been great back then. Wonder what Floyd pulled down a year...

My first car was a 1963 Galaxy 500 police Interceptor 4 door.... a real Black and White that had a hole in the roof for the cherry!

The engine was a 390 four barrel with a 4 speed... I wonder how many of those were built???

I did a valve job and nothing from Ford would fit... had to go to a speed shop and special order the valves and springs!

 

As far as cars in Mayberry is concerned, wasn't the defining episode the one where Goober takes apart Larry Hovis' car and re-assembles it inside the jail to fix a carb problem?
