My good friend and fellow Emperor traded his truck off for this 29 roadster. It was flat black and last night when he got it home we started picking at the body. Figured out it had OLD paint under i so we started strippin it. Man, SOOOOOOO glad we did! Looks *****in as hell! Anyways, story goes it was an old Bonneville car. Does anyone recognize it? It has some key features like the molded/smoothed drivers door, 40 Ford dash, smoothed cowl, streamlined hinges, and it had a roll bar coming through the panel above the decklid. Any info or pics would be greatly appreciated!!

Do have any full side shots?
I don't recognize it, although I have seen a couple pics of Bonneville cars with the drivers door smoothed.

Here's one of the other side. Also, I'm not sure the ch***is is what was under it when it was raced in the 50s. The car was supposedly put together some years ago by Rudy Rodriguez.

  6. Three questions

Was the trunk lid once welded or leaded in?

    Has it ever been channelled?

has the lower left cowl been repaired?

Full louvered aluminum hood and decklid, moon discs, a tonneau and a roll bar. That's pretty much it.

I'm not really big on patina unless it is some serious real authentic patina which this is for the most part. I generally go for refinement and real shiny paint. But I kind of like it just like that, sort of brutalist.

  10. Wow! it amazing what a case of beer, a gallon of lacquer thinner and a couple of friends can accomplish in a few hours. That looks nothing like the roadster I helped TMoney haul home from So-Cal just a few days ago.

Like TMoney already mentioned the '29 roadster currently sit on a pair of original '32 but no one knows how long it has been like that. There are no original floorboards in the car, however the sill plates still remain under the doors. So that lead me to believe the body was never channeled over a frame during it's lifetime.

Another interesting fact about the body is that was almost completely welded together solid a while ago. Except for the decklid and p***enger side door every other panel of the body (dash, cowl, gas tank top, driver's door, rocker panels, quarter panels, and above & below the deck lid) has been welded and smoothed together, then it was painted in at least two colors green then yellow.

  11. You forgot to mention green paint on the 16' steel wheels and having both the original deuce shell and frame rails color & patina matched to paint on the body.

Also the gas filler hole in the p***enger quarter has been frenched in, but I not sure how original it is since the lacquer has been cracked all around it.

if it's the one that rudy built i think he bought the body from sammy at the lars swap 5-6 years ago, i remember sammy offering it to me but not having any cash. if it's the same body it was an old race car (bonneville, drag, circle track ?) and had a hood painted like the american flag with some numbers/ lettering on it. it wasn't on a 32 frame or any frame when sammy had it, just a bare body with a hood.

Cool, it definitely seems like the body hasn't been on there for a long time. Any one else?

  26. I am skeptical about it being a Bonneville car but would ***ume at some point it ran the Dry lakes. If you are able to feel the inside doors & quarter panels for any signs of holes or filled holes that would indicate use of a lakes tarp.

Tyler, this was posted on Face book from a non-hamber on my buddy's page:

I am not a member of the HAMB but a friend of yours is looking for info on this car. Rudy built it as a cheap quickie hotrod for a friend of his. It was a race car... obviously a fast one but we dont have any idea of its history. We would sit in it for hours and hours drinking and laughing.

If I am not mistaken, Jimmy White had it for a while at his shop. Cool little car, too bad it wasnt left alone. Anyways, your friend ended up with a neat little car by accident.

  29. Nice work Chris. I like the old shots with the black striping because it looks like a bumble bee roadster. It's also too bad the paint was sanded off the dutchmans panel along the way.

If Rudy and/or Jimmy White had anything to do with it wouldn't it make sense to contact them and see if they might have a bit of information? I've found that previous owners or people who have worked on a particular car sometimes remember small bits that can help fill in the picture of a car's history.
