Hey guys, i've been looking for a cl***ic wheel for my 65 ford f100.. I found a guy selling these wheels and tires for 100 bucks off his f100.. tires are junk, wheels need polishing.. what can you tell me about them.. are they old.. are they clones.. are they worth the 100.

I like the look.. any of you guys running them.. are they still cool?

I prefer to have a american racing salt flat style wheel.. but they cost cash I dont have ... im putting it all in body work and interior at the moment..

Well, my F100's a '55. But this pictured is what would be my choice if I didn't have my '55...
Good, useable truck that looks and performs well. Only downside is the cost of steering linkage (long drag link with tie rod end attached, $100+; other Moog parts costly too. But you only have to replace them once.)

The slots were popular on the street thru the '60s & '70s. A friend of mine had a set and one of the airbrush guys did some artwork around the slots, (light blue/gray) and made 'em look just like Halibrands! I had to touch them to be sure they weren't!
Very cooool. I like the price, I'd go for 'em!

  4. Look like Old ET slots. Late 60's Early 70's They are great when polished. One of my favorite vintage wheels.

Mine are U.S. Indy wheels. I've always liked them. I prefer them in the rough cast finish though.

I thought ET slots had the old unilug system with the oval washer ???? I think they look like some I had made by Superior. either way the would look cool on the right car.

They could be Ansen Sprints but it's been years since I had any.

I could live if they were ansens.. is there any identifiers that I can look for when I go look at them?

you think the 10" wheel in the back is too much? If I were buying I would of gone with 8 maybe 9 in the rear and 7 maybe 8 in the front. I know this is something done back in the old days.. just dont know if looks right on this set up?

Don't get hung upon whether they are US Mags or Ansens or ???....They are way cool!! I like polished, but they look fine as-is.
10" wide rears...I like them....however, will they fit in the wheel wells on your truck?

Don't think they're Ansens. All the Ansens I remember from back then used a cap held on with screws like Torq Thrusts use. No tapped holes around the center holes on those. People who started later than A/R and Ansen came up with the idea of shoving a cap in thru the back.

They're not Appliance. AP wheels had counterbores at all the lug nut holes.

I'd make a wild guess the fronts are 6's or 7's and the rears are offset 8 1/2's. Rears might be 10's but a 10 will usually make a tire that size look a lot more stretched out. Never seen anything wider than a 7 that looks a shallow as the fronts.

Hundred bucks looks like a decent deal in any case since they're not gouged up at the outer edge.

not hung up on brand really.. more concerned about getting a cheapo Chinese rip off...

  17. Those looke like 7's and 10's... and will look totally bad *** after you have them polished!

Just put the stock center cap on them... no fake knock off, rockabilly bullets or **** like that.

You can buy new center caps off of e-bay.

  18. My guess is that they are US Mags brand... and worth $100.

My guess is Keystone slots. Keystone used a 'slide-through' cap with an o-ring to keep it from rattling. The valve core placement also looks like Keystone.

I have a set on my Chevelle that look exactly like those (sorry, no pics handy...).

Edit: Oh yeah... EASILY worth $100. I certainly wouldn't sell mine for that price!

If they were et's they would have the name cast into the rim on the back side.I have a set i saved that my old man had in the late seventys. They look pretty good polished up or with a light vapor hone finish.

Don't think you have to worry about them being Chinese. They focus most of their efforts on that gaudy shiny ghetto looking ****.

As long as they're not Fentons you oughta be fine. Buddy of mine worked in several of the wheel foundries in CA over about 25 yrs. He worked for Fenton for a while and said this big truck backed up to the dock one morning when he'd only been there for a few days. He looks out and figures its somebody there to pick up s**** since there's all manner of junk aluminum piled in the bed. Nope. He was delivering. Fenton made wheels from anything they could melt as long as it looked sorta like aluminum. He said their typical castings were such poor quality he woulda walked before he'd have run a set of them on a car that left the driveway.

He also worked as foundry manager for Superior for a long time, and said they made some of the best quality wheels of any he ever saw. A big part of their business was aluminum castings for the aircraft industry, so as they got into the cast wheel business they didn't know any way to make stuff other than the right way.

Several brands can be identified from the back side. American, Ansen, ET, and I think Cragar all have their name cast on the back. Appliance have JAPAN cast on the back side, but like I mentioned before the easiest way to identify them is by the counterbored lug holes.

take a picture of the back of the wheels, or just look at the back, then you can see if they're name brand wheels. Even if they're not, they're worth $100/set. 10 inchers are kind of hard to find, but also kind of hard to fit under a fender.

I just put a set of similar slots (7" front and 8.5 rear) on my 55 chebbie, they had been polished years ago, I shined them up again...I think they look nice.

  30. Don't you mean machined finish? I've never seen them rough cast.
