ok. i was wondering if you can post pictures and info on how low you got your car with out air bags. want to see how low i can go with mine. j
still have the stock rearend? get drop uprights (buffalo enterprises) and cut coils for 5" up front, make some 3" blocks for the back from 1.75" steel.

Not too HAMB friendly but car has mid 70's front clip with narrowed control arms and cut springs. Rear is also mid 70's Camaro with de-arched Camaro springs and 3" blocks.
I went for the tail dragger look when I had this 52'... I cut (1) full coil from the front, and used Posie 3" drop super slide leafs with a 2" block in the back.. stock rear. Rode pretty good, but its a low rider...it aint suppose to ride like a caddy.. unless you drop some real coin.
my buddy (he is in his 60s and retired now) said that he had a 50 Chevy back when he was young. he said he took the coils completely out of the front and i think he said he had drop blocks out back. anyway, that's about as low as you can go (lol) ...without serious cutting anyway. he said it cornered like a slot car but rode like a buckboard. ha ha ha. damn kids. ....i say just bag it.
3" drop coils from Jamco in the front and 3" blocks and a few missing leafs in thr rear. Not bad for cheap in my opinion.
I'm a freak.. I like stock height.. although I will lower the rear a bit and give it that motor boat look.
get a copy of kustomland. you'll see how low the boys were running them around 58-59 the question is how do you want it to RIDE??? dropped uprights/steering arms cut or lowered coils stepped control arms you can easily get 6" down in the front you can z the frame or put a notch in it, remove leafs, add blocks... you can get another 6 in the rear but you're gonna have scrubline problems or your gonna bang the torque tube/driveshaft on the tunnel. i like the jamco bit.
1 1/2 coils cut in front and 3" blocks. Gonna cut the other half of the coil and give it another inch of block or drop springs and blocks in rear. Nadine

Jamco 3" coils, dropped uprights and steering arms in front. Jamco 4" rear springs and 3" blocks in the rear. Had to raise the tunnel 1".
Thanks Brickford......I just love these cars! The options are endless and pretty reasonable to build.
Bickford, They are 6.70-15's on stock rims. Plenty of travel room for the rear end. However, like I said, you will have to raise the tunnel and tire to fender contact while turning WILL BE an issue this low if you turn too sharp. To me it's woth it for the looks and to not have bags, which was my goal. Good luck on your ride, I would love to see some pics when you are done lowering it. Rob
right now my car lays frame. i feel i lost my way. so now im want to get a stock frame( when i can afford one) and lower it the old way. thats why i want to see pictures of these chevies lowered without bags. i want to see how low i can go without having any crazy issues.
I'd bet there is someone near you who would trade their stock frame out for a bagged one. Enough people ask how to lower their 49-54 on a daily basis.
^^^^That's a first for me! What is wrong with it laying frame? I thought bags rode nice, at least the ones I have rode in did? Why would you want to reverse that? Not knocking you, just curious.
That is a good point - you ought to be able to find someone to swap you for your bagged ch***is. And not to sound really dumb, but you don't HAVE to let the air out of the bags when you park it - why not just adjust it to a height/pressure that works and leave it there?
