LOL....He really used little kids plastic swimming pools with real acid large enough to dip the fenders, hoods, and doors, trunk lids in when he ran the old Camaros. He was also among the first to run "Acid Ported" cylinder heads back in the late 70's. He dipped a friend of mine's 69 A/SA and later SS/DA Camaro's sub frame along with the other mentioned parts. When we put it back together we had to use weaker trunk lid springs because the original springs tried to throw the trunk lid thru the rear window when we opened it with the key....lol. This was back in the later 70;s also.
X-Tech, An 'A+' as usual. Bill Flynn had heard of body weakness and stress-bending from the other AWB car owners. Especially floor buckling. Since he was planning on making a name with 'wild wheelstands', he knew he would have to have a strong car to hold up during a long campaign. He was one smart guy. NHRA Tech guys were using micrometers on front fenders as far back as about 1978. I watched them check our C/SM shop car at a few races. They miked the fender along the edge in a number of places. They were not throwing anyone out for having thin sheet metal as far as I recall....It was a pretty common modification but you always knew you could get tossed for it if they were looking for a reason to throw you out.
I should have said Super Stock acid dipping in 1965....The rules/racers went haywire on the AWB cars!!
Big Willie and Tomiko! Both had Hemi Superbirds and would run 10's in early 1970! I went to an impromtu street race in my 1969 Coronet R/T to an "Industrial" area of Anaheim and there was a "tree" set-up in the street and guys with large fists full of money betting on every race! What a deal! THey used to show up at OCIR and LIONS on ocassion as well.

I saw Doug on Sunday at a car show in Limerick, Pa. Somehow he found me after he saw my name on my '55 Chevy. He looks good but has had a difficult year with health and family problems. Please continue to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he faces future surgery. Even with his problems he has a positive attitude due to his Christian beliefs. It was a pleasure to talk to him and I wish him well. Ken

Good article, Colesy. Not much mention of the machine shop services of Dick Weinle , who is a very clever guy in his own right. No mention about the lettering either. If you've noticed , most of the Cincy cars had art work by this talented guy. Anybody else know his name?
Good guess. Greg was real good too. This guy lettered Dave Lewis' Granny Goose M/P car. First time I saw it at Gainesville, I noticed it had little tiny Byrds song lyrics on the rear panel. He was a pretty hip counter -culture dude at that time. I saw him about ten years ago with a trick painted Corvair Corsa. We'll see if anyone is out there from the Cincy area.
Semi O/T I am looking for information or photos on the 1969 Winternationals SS/D entry #933 a 1964 Ford Thunderbolt allegedly driven by Wayne Gapp and ran and lost in the first round against Bill Jenkins in his 68 Camaro. Jenkins won class. See Attachments. If someone has a National Dragster or Drag News that covered the event I would appreciate to find out what is mentioned in it about the SS/D Class eliminations. If anyone attended the event and recalls any of the above. I would think Jenkins would of been photographed on every round and somewhere a photo may exist of him running against this car. Looking for information on the 57 Ford 312 285 hp dual quad engine. This was the 270 hp dual quad engine with a special camshaft and dual valve springs. Specifically the Ford part number and/or grind data of this camshaft. Regards, Dennis

Dean -- Yup! - It IS the correct tire!! But you must go to M&H's website to see the correct picture ( the one Larry posted). The picture on the Coker Tire site is wrong! I've told them about it and they said they would correct it the next time they updated the website! They are out of stock at the moment but are taking "back orders" for future delivery! Call em up and get in line!! LOL
I just came across this old National Dragster 'Drag Mart' ad... I'm guessing it's got to be from '71-2-3 (?). It's all cool shit... there's a couple of Tri-Five Chevy Jrs; a couple more Super Stock AMX cars; an Aluminum Front End '64 Belvedere (body only) C/SA; the HEMI Cuda of Bill Stilles. Yep! They are available, and I've ordered mine from Eric at the number in my previous post #7623. InterCo Tire is the new owner of the M&H Racemaster tire brand as well as the actual manufacturer. If you should go to another website to view these tires, realize they are not the actual manufacturer as their site might lead you to believe. Good Luck!! Jr
You can buy these from Summit Racing as well. Bought mine last fall. These are the 14" version. They look period correct and they're nice and sticky. -Joe
