So i figured id share a little story about my weekend. Its saturday, and im headed out to pick up a buddy (60galaxyJJ). We were headed over to a birthday party and it wasnt raining, so i decided to drive my coupe. Its about 6 o clock when i pick him up, and the party is a good 30 miles away. My plan was to hop the highway over, but he whips out his fancy phone and says " It'll be quicker to take the back roads over". So whatever. A bit slower but a nice drive, so off we go. Well we hit this little town called Enumclaw, and i swear it was a scene out of The California Kid. We miss the turn we needed, so i took the next street up. Green light, no traffic, signal and turn. Thats when lights come on behind me. Cop walks up and says "you got no lights on this thing" I go, "mind if i get out and check it out? He says "after you give my your licence and registration". So i hand it to him, and check out my lights. I have a tail light out on the driver side, and everything else is good. I look at JJ and we couldnt figure out what was up. Cop walks back, walks around the car, and you could see the dislike in his face. Hands me a ticket for an illegal left hand turn. I said " where did i make an illegal turn at officer?" he points back at the intersection and says "didnt you see the sign? YOU DO drive a car dont you?" ( i honestly didnt see the sign, so my bad on that one. ) So he gets in his car and takes off. I fire my car, and pull up to the stop sign. As im taking off, literally not 50 feet from where i was, another cop lights me up. Im thinkin "awe great, now what" Well guess what? "Know you got a tail light out? Im gonna hafta give you a ticket" I look at the cop and said "really? I just got pulled over for that, and all im trying to do is get to state route 169!" Cop looks at me, looks at jj, gets on the radio, and says "up 2 streets, take a left, and i dont wanna see this car back here again" and takes off.

Fast foreward. Birthday party was a bust. So we hit up the local fast food burger joint in the next town over. So we're sitting in the parking lot eating our food when a cop rolls up next to us. Shines his light in to us, and asks "So, may i ask what you guys are doing?" I hold up my burger and says "well officer, we're getting some dinner" He looks at us, and says "well you cant be sitting here, get a move on" and takes off.

It was just like the movies. Ridculous! Needless to say i got my light fixed, and parked my car for the rest of the weekend.

Kinda funny now, but man did that night suck. I hadnt even gotton on it, or squeeked the tires.

    Lesson learned i guess

  2. Must be hard up for money. there is lots of little towns like that popping up due to budget cuts there looking at every ave. As for the cop with the light I would file a complant on him he was rude and had no reason for his actions.

I see you are a "punk 19 year old kid". getting dicked with by the cops is part of the program. my buddy and I got loitering tickets in the drive through line at Jack In the Box once. how's that for bullshit?

I'm an old fart now. haven't been pulled over for years.

There's a city to the southwest of me whose city administrator is budgeting two new police officers who she says their salary will be covered solely by doing traffic enforcement. She wants to hire two cops just to write tickets. Tell me there won't be incentives to write as many tickets as possible.

There's also a small village just to the north of me that most truckers won't drive through. They have an officer on their force who is one of the only state certified truck inspectors. A main highway goes through the village and if you're driving a big truck there's a good chance you're going to get pulled over, and he's more than likely to find some infraction in your truck. I've known truckers who have said they drive twenty miles out of their way to avoid the town.

Some things never change...kids in cool old cars always get hassled. Sounds like Griffin, GA in the 80s.

I like to get the race car out about three or four times a year. It makes 800 horsepower so you can imagine the idle quality. This car is completely street legal down to the signals & I put on the street meat when I go out. Back in March I went out for a quick trip around town & got pulled over, no problem. I thought the cop was gonna shoot me! He had his hand on his gun, barking out orders like a drill sergeant. A few moments later I was out of the car looking at three more cars & officers. After looking at my car & checking my lights for almost an hour I was let go with a warning for noise... needless to say I don't go for Sunday drives anymore

    You think that's bad....
I got pulled over constantly when I was 18/19 years old in my first car, a non Hamb friendly VW Bus. No I was not a hippy. :) They thought I was selling drugs or something. They searched it twice and gave me lame tickets all the time....like having curtains in my window/obstruction of view and crap like that. They were always rude and obnoxius. Eventually I bought a tape recorder and recorded the conversations when I got pulled over and brought it to the chief of police and said if they didn't stop harassing me I'd take THEM to court!! Pressed play, he listened...apologized and I was never pulled over in that area again.
Some cops just like to harass people...maybe it gives them something to do, or make themselves feel better. Who knows. :)
You have a cool car though!!

  9. I have an 85 year old friend who has a range of cars including an Alvis, a Bugatti and a Prince Henry Vauxhall. He still drives them all - I asked him how he managed to tax, insure and have the Ministry of Transport test done on them all as it must be a full time job. Good Lord, he said, I'm far too old for all that nonsense. He said as a very old fart in a very old and valuable car he was never stopped by the police. I don't condone the driving without insurance but he had a point - what the hell could they do to him at that age??

You've got some scary ass cops where you live!

  13. I'm seeing a lot more pulling over around here in rural southern Tennessee, and surrounding areas- N Ga., N Al, especially smaller towns. I'm sure they need the money, some cops have told me they have had to step up traffic stuff because it's the only way to get more revenue. Always somebody stopped now, everywhere I go around here. Used to be a smile and a wave..

Better get yer lights, insurance and speedometer in order before you head out.

I got pulled once for, "cornering too aggressively", when pulling out of Murray's, and when I asked the cop why he would say I did that, I got. "I saw you make that right, looked like you were gonna roll it, this isn't a race track you know kid!"

    Didn't know 53' Fleetwood's had a road & track package....

Yeah.. Enumclaw and all the little speed traps between there and Maple Valley on 169 you really gotta watch out for. That road varies from 25 to 55 to 35... just depends where you are. Enumclaw is a small town with too many cops. They do however have a killer car show once a year where they block off the whole down town. It's my favorite show of the year.. not too big, not too small. Good food, good music.. all that's missing is a beer garden!

Sorry you got hassled. Another place to watch yourself is Renton.. same cop type attitude.. if not worse.

    I'm just sayin.....

I'm 66 now but what you guys are describing sounds like a replay of 1960, the year I got my license. It was a never ending line of bullshit stops and I'm still convinced it only served to boost the ego of the officers involved. Back then it wasn't so much a revenue enhancing deal but I'm sure smaller towns didn't mind at all the extra $$$$'s

Try the little towns on a HOG, it's always interesting! We (ex and I) were loaded down with gear for camping and got escorted thru two towns on the Ohio River. He didn't pull us over but followed us to the town limits. 10 Miles down the road, at the next town, there was one waiting for us. Same deal, personal police escort thru town! I never realized a was so important to warrant a police escort!! :)

What does your car look like to draw so much attention?

  19. An "Old" old friend of mine got pulled over on CA 65 on his way to Bakersfield, he was doing close to 100 in his '64 Sedan De Ville that he bought new. the cop looked at him and looked over the car (mint condition) complemented him on the car and told him to keep the speed down, then drove off. He died a couple of years ago at 93, I think he was 88 when the incedent took place. Age has certain advantages.

Revenue. They won't give tickets to their neighbors so anybody just passing through is fair game. I've had 2 of these myself this year. Last cop I actually had to ask where he was from because I was on a state highway. The court was a laughable circus too, the judge actually winked at me and said "no more speeding, ok? At least not around here." wink. wink. Then the judge leaned over to the prosecutor (pretending like I couldn't hear) and said "why are we down this month" to which the prosectuor replied "officer so-and-so got hurt and missed work", judge said "tell him to put on his big boy pants and get back to business". It was a small room with a folding table and a steady stream of out-of-towners paying fines in cash.

Where I live is barney fife-ish but they sit in front of my house (like almost in the driveway) for a speed trap so I always stop and bs and tell them I appreciate what they're doing.

.... so does respect. Whether you want to or not.. treat the cop like he wants to be treated, be honest (relatively) about your speed and chances are he'll go a whole lot easier on you. Remember.. they've heard it all.

I blew by a cop once in the opposite direction.. was doing well over 100 mph when I looked in my rear view mirror and saw him flip a 180 in the middle of the highway. I knew he was coming for me. I pulled over to the side of the road and waited for him. Gave him no bull when he came up to the window.. He wanted to know if I knew why I was pulled over and I said, "yeah.. I was going a little too fast"... he kind of smirked and wrote me up for 10 over the speed limit. Got off very easy that day..

Won't work every time.. but it really doesn't pay to flip 'em the B.S.

  22. Hahaha! sad but true....
I used to get stopped at least twice a month while in my daily driver, 3 inch exhaust and a factory spoiler seemed to scream teenager, until they saw my age was 30 and would send me on my way

  23. Ha! I did the exact same thing and had the same results. Writing one for 10 over is a favor, could have been a whole lot worse. Of course the cop doesn't want to come to court either.

All good news. So far;:) When a real serious crime happens they are already on duty.:D

I'm guessing the 'no turn' sign, the speed limits, the noise abatement regulations, etc. are for a specific purpose, not just to hassle law abiding motorists? Cops need to get paid too. Better to pay them with fines they collect for legit violations than raise taxes.

I have dual straight pipes, like the noise:D, but if I get cited for it I won't whine, I'll just send them the money.

I had my fare share of jerk off cops like that. It has slowed down and I havent been bothered in years. I made sure I raced all the young punk cops at the Sears Point beat the Heat program. They left me alone after that concidering all I had to do to avoid a ticket was drive faster, oh and yes I can drive well. Graduated with top honors from the CHP EVOC course twice. But now my old Chevys cruise at 45-50 on the freeway. No need for speed anymore.

I was driving my OT '70 Dino Ferrari thru a small town, obeying the 30 mph limit about 10 pm one night with my girl, when the LEO traveling the other way pulled a U and hit the lights right behind me.

He was pretty young looking - when he approached my window he said I had a tail light out, so I got out and walked around to the back to see which one - Huh!?!?, they were all lit up just fine. I looked at him quizically and he said he was sure the left one was out when he pulled me over!

Then he started asking questions about the car, what engine it had, carbs (3 dual throat Webers) and so on - and the real reason for the stop became clear, he just wanted to see my car! :)

After about 10 min of car talk he sent me on my way.....truth be told, the light probably was out, I found it had a loose ground wire the next day when I looked at it.

In my younger days, a buddy of mine told me how he got pulled over by the local cop once, who said he thought my buddy was gonna exceed the speed-limit.

Fast-forward 3-4 years, and I get pulled over by the same cop. The reason?...he "thought I was gonna exceed the speed-limit." LOL!
