Not sayin it wasn't my fault knowing the tint was too dark, but was surprised at the $120 for fine.

Oh well, small price to pay for saving the interior I suppose. I guess I never thought of window tint as something important enough to pull someone over for, but from what I've been told (by more than one officer) they use it as a reason to pull you, then check for other "violations".

Of course, none of us has ever broken traffic laws...;)

...a DUI is no joke man. Ever had a friend or loved one seriously injured or killed by a drunk? If you want to risk your own life be my guest, but don't take anyone out with you.

The window tint law is not only because it can be difficult for the driver to see at night, BUT most importantly...so the police officer can see into the car to see if some idiot is armed and how many people are in the vehicle.
It is a valid concern for officers.

I left an intersection 'briskly' in the roadster last year near Los Altos and was quickly pulled over. I wasn't speeding, but probably could have been nailed for "exhibition of speed". We chatted for a while and that was it. I think it helps to be old and polite. The first is built in now and, I'm working on the second...

Agreed. In the next town over in the 60s and 70s the cops were the high school bullies and losers, one even became chief in the 80s/90s... bunch of A-holes... Nice to see cities like Phoenix looking for college grads to join up and not the old days retards....

The town that Dyanflash_8 was in, is in the proces of changing from a 1 horse town into a 2 horse city. This means a change in taxes and revenue. So the cops have to kick things up a knotch to make money for their new city and to prove their self worth. So, Good Old Barney Fife now has to become a real BIG CITY Cop. I found this on their site.
    City of Enumclaw Annexation
Annexation is the process by which cities extend their municipal services, regulations, voting privileges, and taxing authority to new territory. It is the City of Enumclaw's goal to build strong, positive relationships with the community and urban service providers to facilitate a smooth transition of land from the unincorporated urban growth area into the City.

Age does have its advantages. I've only gotten pulled over once in the '37. It was an unmarked car and he let me go after a lecture because he was not tasked with traffic stops. There are a few more times I could have been stopped. I'm 61.

My boss sends his 18 yer old kid to get me at the office one day. I'm to go to the house with him. Five miles thru downtown Boca Raton. The kid drives a 6.2 hemi charger srt that he has modified to over 600 hp (he does his own work on it) and he is stopped on a daily basis by the Boca police.

I head out smartly up the road in the '37 with him following. When we get to the house, he says you were tearin' it up. I thought you were gonna get stopped. I said "Naw, they were watchin' you. It's not often I get a designated decoy."

I must have an innocent face, for the 5 of times I've been pulled over I've got off with a warning for at least 3 of them (not counting checkstops, as they don't count as being pulled over and unless your drunk you don't have much to worry about)

I was leaving the bar one night in my OT '98 GMC (RIP) with my best buddy and my ex on the bench beside me. Someone we know pulls up beside us at the light and guns his engine jokingly. Always one to take the joke one step further, I start smking my tires and when the light turns green I speed through the intersection before applying the brakes to slow down again (it was 2:30am and not a soul in sight) I get about half a block away before the cop that was sitting in an alley back where I did my little wheel-peel hits his lights on me. Pull over, go through the usual "What's the big idea/been drinking?/license and registration please" and I notice this cop has his vest and shirt off (no shit) and is wearing only his uniform pants, pistol belt and a white tshirt and man does he look beat.

Long story short, he was just off when I decided to show-off and really wanted to call it a night. He didn't feel like writing me up a ticket, so if I could beat him best 3 out of 5 in Rock-Paper-Scissors I would be off the hook and he'd let me go without the $450 in tickets he was supposed to be issuing me. I won, he grinned and told me to have a good night.

Hey guys. You can always move to Baltimore Maryland. The cops here have had their pay and pensions screwed with and every time they have to lock someone up or pull their gun out, at least one cop in the group loses his job or gets sued. So most of then just sit back and watch the place go to hell in a hand basket. So, no tickets, but you risk your life just working here.

I'm part of the "more than half" that doesn't have one.

Knowing people that have them doesn't count. I can't control what others do, but I damn sure can control what I do.

Maybe I'm over-reacting, but I lost a real good friend a while back because of a drunk who couldn't control himself.

I think it's one thing to get a DUI from a low number blow, I think we could all be guilty of this time to time. A good friend of mine had a bad scare when he totaled his Subaru(at least it wasn't something that can't be replaced and he only hurt himself, luckily), but it was a wake up call to be careful. I know two young guys that got the DUI's they deserved, however both still drive their cars minus a license and drunk. I yell at them, try to take their keys, and nothing. One drives a '27 T and the other a chopped '53 Chevy. Wish I could get through to them. I was following the guy in the chevy one night when he refused to leave the Chevy parked or let me drive it (as I was sober, and had driven the car before). A cop pulled up right behind us, probably should've let him pull him over, but I didn't, cause you protect your friends, but now I regret it. I have a feeling that Chevy will end up in a ditch before the kid stops driving drunk.

Interesting read. Of all of the tickets I received in my 49 years behind the wheel only two were undeserved. And man I can't tell you how many times I didn't get caught. Was one of those two cars that blew by the guy in Renton, WA in 67 a Turquoise and white 56 chev? Might have been me ? best or worse record you figure it out 32 tickets in one month when I was 20. Haven't had but two tickets in the last 15 years. Trying to stay below the radar. Now I drive a 57 Olds with a 535hp 455. Stock looking never bothered by a cop now

How do you blow under the limit and still get a DUI?

Seems like the limit is the limit, either you're over it and guilty or under it and not.

    How does that work?

or they will end up in the oncoming lane on the wrong side, my uncle was killed by some young idiot on his way home from drinking at 8 am !!! drinking all night, crosses over the line for what ever reason, my uncle goes under the knife and has a stroke during the operation....this moron got something like slap on the wrist, and my uncle ( the guy who got me into this old car thing with his 34 ford pickup he had forever ) is dead.....saying I tried to stop them from driving even after a few beers near over whatever the limit, makes you just as guilty, call the cops on these wastes of space, they are murderers with 3000 lbs GUN !!

    End of rant.

I'll stop posting because you all know how I feel, and I sure with my uncle could come over and see my truck project but that will never happen.

If you score low enough on the road side sobriety test (walking the line, etc.), and you have alcohol(or other things:rolleyes:) in your system, you can be charged with impairment.

I won't drink AT ALL when I'm going to drive, .08 is freakin' LOW, why risk it?

Should've said DWAI. Or right at the limit, it's a fine line I guess.

I guess I have just learned to avoid it, I don't hang out with the kids anymore, I just couldn't handle seeing it. I know it's not alright, but it was my way of dealing. Luckily, the Chevy is not running for the time being last I heard. It takes a big person to call the cops on a friend, but I guess if they won't hand you the keys are they really a friend?

I remember being pulled over 6 times in the 13 miles it was straight to my house from Sparks to Reno on Maccarran blvd, when I was in Highschool. I could see them sitting off the side of the road waiting.

Got it from Sparks Police, Reno, Sheriff and the Highway Patrol. All the same tickets and all different court dates.

I guess I should have left the little brunette who was the Chiefs daughter alone.......hehehe.

Welcome to the world of being a hot rodder! I humbly pass my torch to you, the younger generation! The good news is that in about 25 more years, they won't care about hassling you any more! The bad news - that's in twenty five years! I have literally spent years of my life sitting by the side of the road with red and blue lights flashing behind me. A few times I actually deserved it too! Not nearly as many times as I sat and waited to be harassed though. How about 46 "fix it" tickets in one sitting? Yes, you read that right 46. Headlights too low, taillights to low, exhaust too loud, No wipers present (they're right here in the trunk! I put them on when it rains!), scrubline front, scrubline rear, and so on. Taught me to be good at public speaking and defending myself! I won some too over the years - bugs and mini trucks used to be constant hassle targets for headlight height. Got pulled over one morning on my way to work in my then new, mildly lowered mini truck... cop got his tape measure out and found my headlight to be about a half inch under legal. I in turn took out my tape measure and found his to be the exact same height! Got a ticket, went to court and presented my findings. Result, ticket dropped, and the city of Tempe had to replace every set of front springs on their fleet of new Chevys! Further result, two cops every morning at either end of my street to write me more tickets, daily! This never really resolved itself until I moved from Tempe to Phoenix!

Arizona is all abuzz about the possibilities of racial profiling with our S.B. 1070 law, and how horrible it could be to these fragile souls here illegally. Baaaahhh - tough!!!

How'd that work out for ya?

  27. About two months ago I was pulled over for 60/45. Total stupidity on my part, no excuse, but it was a rough 72 hours. From a very good friend having emergency Cancer surgery on Friday, three visits to the hospital 100+ miles round trip, and having to work seven days in a row 10+ hours. Just not paying attention.
The officer was very courteous, told me what speed I was clocked at. I agreed with him, no argument. He asked what was up, I told him it was a bad weekend, hospital visit, work, total exhaustion, He ran my license, gave it back with no ticket, just a be careful warning.
I can't chalk it up to being a old guy, I was polite and honest.

  28. G'day, A friend was driving on the interstate at a totally irresponsible rate of speed. Met the new state patrolman in our area who promptly hit the lights and was going to do his u-turn. Buried the patrol car up to the doors in the snow in the median. My friend, realizing he was not being pursued, turned around and buzzed the officer at well over a 100 and flew off into the dark North Dakota night.

I have noticed around here that the cops have been out THICK in the past few weeks. Use to see maybe one a day taking my daughter to school (15 miles or so, 1/2 free way). I see, no joke at least THREE a day. To me, its ovious what they are doing.

What I get a kick out of, is how much certian cars I own get pulled over. I have been pulled over more times then I can count in my Jeep, my little shelby car, and a neon I use to own for no front plate. I have been driving my 86 chrysler new yorker for 3 years without a plate. Cops dont even look at that car....
