I was thinking about using a set of speedway motors split wishbones. After reading about the fenton header deal, not so sure. Has anyone used them? Are they foreign made also? I do have a model a wishbone I guess I could just split it and use it.

At the price of the Speedy bones there are lots of good originals available. I would use good ole Henry whenever possible.

X2... if you already have a model A pair why spend all that money, you can get a split kit that comes with brackets tie rod ends and every thing else you need. Even if you have to pay someone to weld them you are in for less than half the price of a speedway kit and have made-in-USA-henry steel on your ride.

You guys all knock them but have you ever even seen a pair of speedway bones in person? I ordered a pair a few months ago. Mainly becasue I am under a very strict deadline with the build. But when I got them I was very impressed. The come with a 11/16" bung welded to the end which accepts either a rod end or ball joint. They are pricey, so if your on a budget build look at other options. Over all I was impressed.

Looking good. Did you get your rear suspension design figured out?

Some good stuff and some bad stuff with Speedway. I personally have not had any problems with some of the front suspension pieces I have purchased. I do have to agree with the others - split the originals!!!!

I too are considering the Speedway split Bones. My biggest fear with Ole Henry's is the horror stories I heard about getting the Caster even / correct if the orignnals are off. I can save alot of time if I know their correct from Speedway....thoughts??

PS Hot Rod just had a whole Rant about Rat Rods and one of the NO NO's was said to be splitting Bones...what's up with that??

That Hot Rod thing was about using the wishbone for the front suspension mount. Its only ment to be for fore and aft stabilization. The guy mounted the front spring to the shock mount.

With original bones you sometimes have to modify the angle at the clevis end to get the caster you want, or to have them attach to the frame so they work for your appl. This IS a trad. hot rod board and it's allways better to reuse vintage steel/parts when ever possible, just my 2 cents. With that being said, sometimes it isn't allways easy to find clean rust free parts when you need them.

all the cars i have used stockers on , i have never had to cut the wishbones to get the caster. i either work the spring or the rear mounts and set the caster at 7 or so degrees.

We ran a set on the "Stricnine" 55 Chevy g***er last year. I had to shorten them a little to fit, but we had no problems. Big wheelstands and over 140 MPH. They were even a chrome set!!! Very good quality.

Read the quote closer. Its about the use of split bones as being poor design regardless of where the spring is. its a different commentary about the spring design.

Split bones better for handling or to help lower the car for aesthetic?

I bought a set from speedway and I am happy with them.

  21. Clearance when swapping motors and transmissions.

Also, if you use a spring with reversed eyes the caster changes. Split bones are adjustable.
