It all started at Galipoli, 1915. Book cover
was based on an actual event & photo.

At the front at Galipoli, 1915. Hot as hell
in summer, cold as the poles in winter.

Wow, Nova Dude. You and SunRoofCord surely do have
a good archive of CELEBRITY rides from the '30s! I particularly
enjoyed Rita Hayworth with '41 Lincoln, Clark gable with '33
Ford, plus Errol Flynn with his '35 Auburn speedster! You can
read a ton about Flynn's VARIOUS escapades -- even in his
own, frank words! -- but there's never a thing about what
wheels he chose to get around! THANKS!

Not me, but it's worth watching "The Untouchables" ANY time (Costner, Connery, Garcia & Smith), if for NO other reason than to see the period costumes, guns AND CARS!!! Just 2 cents.

Reckon what Clark's up to here? Up to the hills with a couple
of buddies for the weekend? I see a shotgun, maybe a fishing
rod, broad-brim hat for sun, and he appears to be pointing at
a map. Sort of looks like a pic his spouse took, rather than a
    publicity shot.

I think R.O. Heck took this pic. It's my fave junkyard shot of all
time, BUT, nobody's ever ventured even a WAG at the approximate
year. People always play it safe with "1930s." Me, I think it could
have been mid- to late-'20s. ANYBODY? (Well, er, uh, almost
    anybody.)

Some more celebs... Groucho Marx with his 1930 Packard 740 convertible coupe, and Mary Pickford on top of a Premier (?) c. 1917.

Tiger #131 was the first Tiger. It's first "score in combat" was two British tanks. The commander of the first tank died. The commander of the second was wounded and evacuated back to GB.
After #131 was captured, it was the commander of the second British tank who got to assess the attributes of #131.
The engineering that was put into the Tigers was part of their downfall. They were so well constructed they took too many resources and there was too much deliberation as to how they could be further improved. Hence, less than 1,500 were ever built (and diesels were used too).

The Russians built their T34's enmasse (60,000+). They used Ford "assembly line" techniques and much of the workforce was more forced work rather than higher pay and conditions used at Ford. The factories were in some pretty remote locations.

Stalin preferred the - There's a certain quality in quantity - approach. They lost a lot of tanks, and everything else, but they had a lot more to lose and a lot to prove. :)
