911 A/BFR ***mins-Beck-Davidson-Thornsberry, 304.606 in the mile, at Bonneville this morning! New record is 301.150 mph.
I was in line beside that roadster at El Mirage last year. It ran to about 3/4 mile and shut off and coasted through at 197. But 304!!!! DAYUM!!! A big tip o' the hat and congratulations!
Wow . . . now that is kicking some serious salty ***! I don't know if I have big enough balls to pilot that tub.
Only one word can describe going 'three bucks and change' in anything .....let alone in an open-wheeled roadster(!!!) - "Un-'effing-real"!!!! Congratulations! Welcome to the history books! Mart3406 ========================
I was standing next to the 911 when it left the line this am on the record run. When it hit second gear it felt like the ground shook and sounded like a fast freight train was p***ing by. 304 at the end of 3 miles! I was fortunate enough to p*** a few minutes with John Beck before the run (we were in line, too, with the 534 roadster). Car has a 476(?) cu .in. top fuel style engine on 67%, weighing in at 6500 lbs! That's some bad *** acceleration! I think that it's a significant accomplishment to make that ****er last three miles putting out approx. 5k hp. CONGRATS TO ALL INVOLVED. vic
Vic, Congrats on your record as well. Thanks, but not my records. The 205 was James Jard and the 212 his crew chief, Corey. They did do it with the 303" Chevy from the car that we (Bob Blakely and me, Bob driving) set the D/GRMR record at Speedweek at 243+. James' father purchased the car from Bob and we also ran it with a C motor (not too well - 3 p***es with 2 spins). vic
Bonneville...the greatest place on earth for records made and broken. That is awesome. I would have loved to see that. I am glad you got to live it. Truly, tip-o-the hat to ya! Hangin' on for dear life!!
Big accomplishment to make that kind of power last 3 miles, for sure. Bigger accomplishment to get it hooked up on damp salt!! This is right up there with Al Teague running 268 in George Bentleys '29 40 years ago.
Thanks for clearing that up. You wouldn't want to impart some advice on the suspension setup, even if it were by PM? I'm setting up a **O/BVGC for next year, and winging the suspension.
Congratulations to you all, that is WILD! It is the "Can Do" at***ude of this team that made it possible. They are all great people.
I don't know anything about the rules of salt racing (obviously) but do these cars really weigh that much?
That's the first roadster to set a cl*** record over 300mph....an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations to John Beck, Davidson, ***mins, Thornberry and crew!
