From the sublime to the -- er, uh -- NOT so subtle! NovaDude, now THAT is a piece of work! I particularly like the clever use of the (Dodge?) tail lights as turn signals. If you do customs, what you WANT is one that is unlike anybody else's car (which, I guess is at the heart of 'rodding, too, right?) Holy shit. Like it or hate it, you have to respect all the thought, time and effort that went into this machine!

Well, speaking of Edsels....on this day, October 13th in
1957 - Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra introduced the Ford Edsel on an hour long TV special.

If the Ol' Crooner and "Ol' Blue Eyes" couldn't sell 'em, nothing could...

I totally agree: MAZOOMA is a total car guy! Cut him, and you get motor oil! Like some others (JamesD, for example), he's a HAMB treasure!
    ______________________________________________________________

WHAT killed the Edsel? I must say, I grouped that rain-enhanced Edsel with classic, beautiful cars for a reason. I love the '58 Edsel. And I am not alone on the HAMB! The '58 could have been the bomb, the shit, shizniks, awesome. All the PARTS were mostly good stuff from Fords and Mercs. But -- to be honest and thorough -- a COMBINATION of factors doomed a car that should have been a success, instead of Ford's worst debacle! Let's just deal with the WORST (?) problem, for now! Nyuk, nyuk!

    Baja Edsel

I cannot count the quality-control issues I've read about, perhaps in part due to Ford pushing them through their Kentucky Merc plant, causing (?) dissatisfaction among a, then, overburdened workforce. I also sponsored a HAMB thread -- in which I learned a LOT more! HERE is what HAMBer Glenn/daBirdGuy said about his '58 Edsel.

What killed Edsel was that push button shifter. There are pictures of car dealers with rows of cars...ALL un-sellable.... because the shifting mechanisms had been removed top replace the bad ones on cars that got sold.
Once they sorted the issue out it was too late to save the car's reputation.
I had a '58 Pacer hard top. GREAT car. Ran good ..handled good.
BUT.... just sitting in the driveway it would decide ON ITS OWN to shift out of park.
I had to chock the tires or I would find it had rolled out into the street.

    HAMBer Edsel said:

The story I have heard on the shifting issue was that when mechanic's would work on the car they had a bad habit of not reinstalling the heat shields and all grounds for the shift relays, then the relays would over heat and cause lots of problems, as would missing grounds.

    HAMBer PoorBoyBruce said:

The engineering of the push buttons wasn't the only reason the 58' Edsel was doomed, it was also their location. Too many people shoved the car into reverse or park when they tried to honk their horn. Been an Edsel lover since I put my first model car together.

    HAMBer 29Nash said:

The Edsel was a marketing failure, the car was just fine. The survivors prove they are as a reliable car as any other. Except as said, the pushbutton shifter.....

Don't get me started on Edsel, 'cause everything was THERE to create a successful make. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Sheesh.

In with the Corvettes, I should have included a photo of the Corvette.....

BTW, it isn't the year 1994. Photo of Mako shark was taken in NZ in 1925.

Who is the man with the fishing rod? (No cheating).....
