Actually Australian aircraft wore the sharks mouth before anyone else in WWII so a 1939 pic would more likely to be a RAAF aircraft. We did operate the P40, but this one is a homage to every operator of the P40 so it would represent everyone that utilised the shark mouth in WWII.
If I remember correctly this was a post war example that did a 'Victory tour'.

You kind of lost me there 'I think it’s about attitudes', not sure what yo mean by it, more than half of the world was at war, it wasn't an attitude.

Another Locomobile, but this time a late teens or early twenties close coupled sedan with a custom body.

I just meant that mentally, the US public wasn't at war in 1939 and 1940. The clouds started to gather, no doubt, in 1941, but isolationism still had a strong grip on us up to Pearl Harbor (a big reason many conspiracy theorists posit that FDR "allowed" the suprise attack).

I apologize for leaving the RAAF shark mouths out of it. I presume these were in the North African desert like the RAF operators? A photo of RAF planes in the desert is supposedly where the AVG got the idea to paint their planes that way.

A very similar comment started quite a little ruckus with some SAS and Aussie gents in a China Beach Bar during a R&R,... (can't remember who made that comment:rolleyes:)

Not to mention bringing "Limey Kid's" Tea Pot to full boil a few years ago :D:D

Not to turn the thread into a war-only thread. But, I shudder to think what might have happened if Hitler hadn't tried to fight on five or six fronts at once -- AND if he'd actually let his able generals do the generaling, instead of him micro-managing. Oh, boy. We might have been until 1950 winning that one!

I love the detail in the brickwork in this building - It has a lot of flair for what could have easily been a purely utilitarian structure.

Mart , I agree wholeheartedly, and THANKS RodZombie. You can't help but appreciate the men/women who visualized this facade AND the guys who sweated out in the sun to make such a keen impression before the public for this Chevy dealership.

End of the line, 1936. Thereafter REO made only trucks. This body by Hayes was maligned as unimaginative but was shared with Graham as a cost-cutter. For Graham, it would be remembered as their least attractive model of the '30s.

Seems funny to me, since the lines are so close to all the Chrysler Corp. and GM models that would bow for 1937! (Note the "turret top"!) And the PRICE is only slightly higher than the Plymouth and competitive with the other MoPar makes!

That Nattrass Rail Tractor pic is a great find Kume, quite likely built from the Cad Frank Natrass won the first NZ Motor Cup at Muriwai in 1921.

It reminds me of this timber straddler outside Harkness and Hillier's engineering works in Sydney.

I believe it is the very same Cad. Wonder where it is now?
