Thanks Rik. That wasnt the one I was thinking of. Although I know that one too. It was one that looked almost like that but had more of a classic coach built feel.

Also my vote goes for the Bugatti!!!!

I saw Willie Wilde the other day at the swap meet, wouldn't it be great to fly him out? He's getting on in years and I'm sure it would be great to reunite him with George Barris.

    * To all those who have been asked to have their car in this display*

Please fill out your special Invite/Application ,submit a couple of photo's of your car, then kindly send everything to us as soon as you can. It will be much appreciated and relieve us of a lot of work load - instead of receiving everything in January.

Thanks very much, John Buck & Axle

I remember seeing a Coachcraft early Merc convert in the Seattle Roadster show a few years ago that was a creamy beige color with a continental kit, fresh restoration of a pre-war build with a long history sheet. The modifications were subtle, but the build sheet was impressive, detailing all the changes that you really didn't notice because it flowed so well. I don't know who owned it, but I'm sure someone on here does. It would be a good addition if available.

Luke, I should see him this weekend. I'll give it a shot, but you know how stubborn he is.

We are happy to announce that Kustoms Illustrated is our official main sponsor of the building and owner Luke Karosi will be flying Rik Hoving out from the Netherlands for this historical event.
Rik Hoving "Rikster" and Jeff Neppl "JeffSled" will be assisting us in all area's of research to bring you the very best cars to be placed under one roof. So far their help in this project has exceeded our expectations and we want to publicly thank the both of you.

Although we have the basic plans figured out we welcome all suggestions .

*Due to unforeseen circumstances - a car maybe subject to change*

Thank you, Axle & John Buck

Things to do List for Glassguy:
take a bit longer lunch break, jump in the car, drive 20 minutes, get to talk to current owner of Jade Idol, and motivate him to send the car to Pomona in January... Drive back to work as a hero!

Dave, Great idea!! I'm already planning HUGE event coverage for the show. I was thinking of doing a two part series to get in as many historic customs as possible, but a double thick, special issue might be the way to go, too!!

I wasn't around to see these cars the first time around- but I started looking at the old magazines in the early 70's and watched as kustoms slowly came back in the late '70s and then really took off in the early '80s. It's amazing to see the cars being so accurately restored and cloned today in such large numbers compared to the mostly chopped and scalloped Mercury doo-wop machines from 30 years ago (every other car had a van spare on the back with James Dean and Marilyn Monroe airbrushed on it). Those cars never felt as authentic and true to the fifties as what we see today. It used to be painful to see the old kustoms in deteriorated condition in the back rows of the L.A. Roadster Show swap meet in the eighties and wonder what fate awaited them. At the time people were not preserving them like they are today and original chopped early convertibles and chopped '36 Ford Coupes ended up as street rods forever losing their kustom heritage.
Kustom fans really need to feel lucky for where we are today- it hasn't always been this good.

  20. Jim A ... I just had chills reading your post ,I was getting so fired up.It sounded like I was listening to a real custom documentary. Thanks

I can't wait to see all these cars under one roof. I also just saw that '39 convertible in Bakersfield. It is always a favorite to see. Great job Axle and everyone involved. The Turks will be representing customs in the Suede Palace. See you there!

I'm getting more and more excited for this. This will be a great gathering of cars and people. Definitely a history lesson for a newbie to this world, but I'm stoked about it! I appreciate all the hard work going into this to get such amazing cars!

It will be hard to pack all those cool cars into a small magazine. Either I will do the extra big issue or spread it out over two issues with a part one and part two. Either way, this show is going to receive MAJOR coverage. I doubt you will ever see this many historically important cars together again. This is truly a once in a lifetime show!

Just do a one-off issue/book that covers the event and have it available there for people to read as they walk past the cars. I remember reading about many of the cars that are confirmed but not all of them so having a history lesson to go with the viewing pleasure would be AWESOME!!!!
