For those that are interested in the Flathead build..... Nothing has been finalised yet.

It will most likely be a Strong Bottom end, which means a Stroker of some sort, Steel Caps, H Beam Rods and Ross Forged Pistons. The Cam is undecided, but it will be selected to match the Offy Heads and Eddie Meyer Intake I'm putting on. See pics below.

For now the Block is on the Chassis being used for mocking up the Body build. Once I get it back I'll give it a dip in the Molases, then get it all checked out to ensure it is good for rebuilding. It is a Stock bore but will definitely need a sleeve in the trashed cylinder. I'll then decide how much to bore it out...... All this is about 4 months away The coin is currently being saved for the build of the Body, so I can't go shopping for Engine bits yet....... but it's so damn tempting considering the Aussie $ is now even with the USD.

  5. I just spent the last coupla hours on this thread with 2 very raucous kids in the background and still managed to stay glued. Can't wait to see more and will pass the link on to fellow rodders just to have a look at ben's work.
It's great to see this level of fabrication going on.
Maybe we'll see something at Geelong nats 2011?
I'm going down the shed right now thanks for the inspiration.

The Chassis is now in it's new home, over at 'Hellbent Engineering', to get the Body built and Steeled out. It's gone from one cool place (Rancho Deluxe) to another one, as there are some real cool projects on the go here...... It's in good company.

I purchased a Steel Firewall to blend it into the body. One easy way to spot a Glass Car is via the thick edge that you get when you butt the Body mould up against the glass Firewall. The Steel firewall will eliminate that. I'll make it as hard as possible for all the Steel experts out there to pick this as a Glass Car.

The Firewall was trial fitted and aside for some relieving to clearance the Bellhousing and Pedal's, was a good fit...... I'm very happy with it. It's obvioulsy built for a Left Hand Drive car so the Steering column will look a little funny popping out on the wrong side, but us Aussies have learn't to live with that.

Not sure how original it is. I know that they are still making them now. I liked it more over the Thickstun PM7 which was my other choice. One of the deciders was that I wanted to still run the Generator in the central position, rather than offset to the side, so I needed a dual carb intake that accomodated that. This one needs a clean-up, I'll probably get it hydroblasted but not polished.

Easter 2011 - Not a chance. There is still much to do once I get it back from Body.

I have a few idea's running through my head. Basically, it will be a Bare Bones interior...... A Seat, Door Trims and some Rubber Matts. I have a few idea's of how to mask the Steel reinforcement and the look of the Fibreglass, but I'll try it out first to see if it works before I go explaining it.

Interior is very far down the track, but I did end up purchasing this Unique Heater. This makes it the fifth Heater I've purchased, but I like this one the best........ If anyone knows what it's from I'd be interested in Knowing. All I know is it's vintage 1946 and says Heatmaster on the front. The top smaller panels open & close, as do the bottom bigger panels.... A nice Art Deco piece. A good cleanup and paint and it will be as good as new.

It's been a while since any progress was made, but I'm happy to report that the Body was finally delivered to Hellbent this week. It is still missing all the Hang-on Bits (Doors/Trunk) but at least it's a start.

From here the Steeling out will begin.

  13. What's the source of the firewall? I ask because they don't all have that square bulge, stock or otherwise.

It was purchased from Performance Warehouse in Nunawadding, here in Melb. It is stamped from an original mould. I've checked it up against original firewalls and it looks correct to me.

Whilst the Body is being steeled out, I thought I'd have a go at setting up my Dash Cluster. I purchased a 55 Olds Cluster a while ago, so the time came to see how it suited the 32 Dash. It doesn't look too out of place. The only thing bugging me is the fact that the top right hand edge doesn't follow the same contour of the dash, like the left hand side. There is still some work to make it look like it belongs, along with the inclusion of Wiper, Light, Ignition Switches, etc.

Thats how I saw you coupe looking when I popped in and saw John on Friday.

Its in good company. I saw that newly produced 'glass 32 5W with hinges, drip rails and hinges - a great alternative to the belly-button hinge-less coupes produced elsewhere.

Yeah Mark, I quite like the construction of the body. Those large White patches you see on the inside are a product called Coremat. It is commonly used in Boat Construction and provides Rigidity & Strength across large flat surfaces. It's all over the underside of the Roof, The Cowel, Quarters, Rear etc.

Good thinking...... That is what I had planned. I'll recess the sides to drop it down as far as it can go and then build up the area's where there is a gap with FG........ watch this space.

Here is a pic of the side profile so you can see how much work there still is to get it sitting flush.

Jim, you're doing a real good job flogging these coupes for the builder of the body ;)

I wonder if they could re-chop the top like the Doyle Gammell coupe - 3 1/2" at the front and 3" at the rear with the A-pillar lent back - its a bitchin' car, with perfect proportions ... at least in my opinion.

I'm really hanging out to see your body progress - seems like you've picked the right shop to help you out.

This Saturday..... I need to take my Front Wheels/Tyres down so I can make sure of the offset before I go and get them Trued up.

So..... can your Deuce fit two 16x525's in the Trunk?

  28. so cool

    - I don't get it with the front tyres/wheels- are they not true ( or just not balanced ?:confused:

Lowsquire's drilled plates really tie the frame together.

I had the Wheels Spun up and they have a distinct wobble in them, it wasn't anything that Balancing could fix. This will only be ecsenuated with a Tall Tire, so I figured I'll get them Trued to make sure there are no uncomfortable feelings on the Hwy at top end.

    Here is the latest......

I got the Cluster to sit better in the dash and trimmed off that top right bit that didn't look right.

There is still some work to do on it to fill up the area's that don't sit flush with the Dash, but for now it is good enough to give to the guy's who are steeling out the Shell so they can ensure it is steeled out to accomodate this dash.

The Body received some attention this week. The Firewall was cut to allow Bellhousing clearance and the floor was placed on the Frame.

The floor will need to be cut at the point where it kicks up to meet the Firewall and extended a bit so it can match up to the Firewall.

The Body has been matched to the Firewall..... It is a great fit.... I'm very happy with how that turned out. It will now be screwed to the Firewall in the channel where the Bonet lacing goes. Once I run the Bonet lacing then the joint will be totally undetectable.

I fitted my Front Wheels/Tires to check for clearance against the Hairpins.... perfect.
