I vote to hang 'em out in the breeze! Seems like a lot of hood scoops on the tri 5s just don't look right to me.

I was looking for a topic like this..... I'm working a 1/12 scale model of a '57 Belair. Here's the hood with a stinger scoop from the same scale '67 Vette kit..... I still need to sand down the bottom of the scoop to make it look right..

  4. I'd cover 'em up if they were mine.

Think of the song that says "my little Deuce coop, you don't know what I got."

I would probably go the route of the early g***ers and build or get something that just covered the carbs with the opening facing front. The cowl induction scoops look OK but they have the '90s written all over them.

  5. This was the scoop I had for the '55, a vintage accessory T Bird style scoop made of steel.

  6. Old guard that's a good looking scoop on the Five Five. Something along those lines is what they should have.

As far as running them uncovered, I knew a guy who tried to race with no aircleaners or velocity stacks and he'd come back with gas on the roof of his car where the wind ****ed it out of the carbs. Kinda hard to tune that way. I know with aircleaners or ??? it wouldn't be so bad, but it's still gotta affect things a little.
A friend of mine gave me this, it was built in the early 70's and he had it in his attic. Kind of a cliche, but I like it. The car and the scoop will be painted before it's all over.

I saw one once with one of those big Ford truck scoops bolted on, the kind that some Super Duty Pontiacs used for a while. Looked really good, if I found one I'd probably run it on my '57. I think they're pretty hard to find, though, and I don't know if they'd be big enough to cover dual quads.

I like the Cal Custom one above, is that the same as the one Roth had on his orange '55? I liked that too.

  13. for those interested my friend owns sledcity fibergl*** in columbus ohio and he made up some gl*** versions of the scoop muttley posted pictures of hes mainly a mopar guy but has started doing some stuff like this aswell his gl*** is HIGH quality

DEUCES , i have a 1/12th 57 i did the same thing to got the body painted just need to build it

if i were to put a scoop on a 55 it would be the stinger vette scoop, two lane bubble or a ford teardrop or a cal custom style

what period look are you going with for your 55?

under NO cir***stances would i put a cowl induction hood on it i HATE those damb things

Did you see that article in Hot Rod Deluxe about recreating the home-made aluminum scoop from the Two Lane Black Top 55? Its not much for aesthetics, but its certainly functional. There is even a photo of the original sketch for the movie car with dimensions and everything... although the people writing the article and putting it together seemed to have had a few beers in the process as they did some sloppy **** along the way.

I still haven't figured out a scoop that I like for my 55. So the carbs still hang out in the breeze. I started building a kind of large aluminum scoop, but it's just too big, although the shape is nice (not a box)

Depending on what the rest of your car looks like, a box type scoop may look alright.

The neat little scoops like the Tbird and CalCustom are too small for dual quads

  16. Squirrel what you need is one of thos large industrial sized mail boxes. :D

I am sure that someone had built one but I just can't imagine a scoop that covers a blower that wouldn't look like a huge building on top of your hood.

I bought an old Mr. Gasket street scoop for the 55 , didn't really like it on there so I tried the Hillborn style and not really sold on that either, End result was leaving them to the wind was the best look for me

Hell yes! That magazine is a bargain at twice the price! (of course, I could be a little biased...)

    THIS....Has me thinking.
I saw a guy run a chevelle cowl, i did like the idea but the lines just were not the same. This vette one is alot closer, I really like that idea.
Im going for a late 60's-ish vibe with it, something along these lines would give it a bit of custom. put some chevrolet scripts on the side.
    alot o good ideas!
