So we all have a collection of books for our projects, some technical some instructional , some filled to exploding with pictures of models over the years , or lost models.....

but in your collection there is just one book that is the one youll always go to for inspiration or to look at on a rainy day ,, you will never tire of it....

    what is it called?

    Mine is

"The New How To BUild Hot-rods" first published 1957"

and when i figure out how to publish pictures on this site in the forum i might post a picture

    awesome

If it had to be just one book, I'd have to go with Custom Cars of the 1950's By Andy Southard and Tony Thacker. The quality, variety and just pure inspirational photo's that pack this little book makes it impossible to ever get tired of it. This copy is so dog-eared, I'm going to have to find another one.

    My Custom Bible.

It is a history of Hot Rodding in New Zealand with heaps of cool old pictures.
There is a 2nd edition out that I must get now.

  6. Best Damn Garage In Town by Smokey Yunick. Best damn book by far.

Not officially "On Topic", but being a Kustom guy, I really appreciate "From P***ion to Perfection".
Book's about the French coachbuilders before WW2. And the wonderful one-off cars they built, Delahayes, Delages, Talbots, Alfas.
Great ideas, and a study in style and flow, for someone building customs.

  12. I'd have to go with the Bishop - Tardel book too.

Almost impossible to pic just one. I love the old Dan Post publications.
The Don Montgomery books (mostly becuase he shows the unique custom car photos from the 1940's).

But the one book I look at the most is Pat Ganahl's The American Custom Car.

..just my own opinion, but I think Andy Southard Jr. took the greatest hot rod / custom car photos ever.

I agree with this one too. That article on those two cars is just right. It's my one issue of RJ that's the most dog eared.

Being the paper nut that I am, it would be hard to pick just one. So, if stuck on the proverbial island, on my three hour tour I would have to find room to pack the entire Don Montgomery collection, and three or four Rodders Journals I love, and the entire collection of Car Craft from Nov. '64 to Sept. '65.( how to build a T bucket articles) Any body who has ever traveled with me knows that this is my practical minimum as far as reading materials!

I bought the book new in the 70s before I could even drive. Great book on Chevrolet Cars of the 50s. Shows many detailed photos so it's great for reference .

It would be Bernie Shumans "Cool Cars and Square Rollbars". A great collection of 50's and 60's amateur photos with narative by an excellent writer who was there. Even if one doesn't care for East Coast cars nothing beats it in describing what Hot Rodding really was in those days.
