Why would a guy beat almost an entire body out of sheet metal and, then, modify old MG hoods to fit. Hell, I'm no panel beater, but I could make a hood for that car with a brake and a sliproll in less time that someone could cut up and stretch a TD hood. The car pictured is not a Gatsby, though Sky Clausen did build the Gatsby, this isn't one of them http://www.gatsbycars.com/cabriolet.html
Really Guys, it's a 1936 W.T.F. Roadster made by Gene W.T.F. and his Brother Sam W.T.F. in their garage ! ! ! Gene died and Sam got run over by a Septic Pumper Truck on his way to pick up the Blown Hemi that was to go into the Engine Bay that very day. W.T.F.
Thanks Mike, It certainly has the basic ingredients for a Griffen or Gatsby. The hood is fabricated from sheet steel, but, as you know, the cowl/doors/rear bulkhead is Spridget. I expect Joe was really after the hinges and a little sheetmetal around the mounting points, not on a "TD" but on a Sprite or Midget. I have a pile of Spridget parts including a hood, windshield, dash, seats etc. to fill in the gaps. I'll try to contact Hemi 32.
Nice find! Looks more like a genuine Piecost to me. Similar to a Henway but from the other side of the Equator.
You know what would be a real crowning jewel on that car? Getting your department of motor vehicles to actually ***le it as a Henway ...
dont have any idea what it is but id have ro build a kick **** roadster out of it and drive it i like it
Here's a Griffin article. Looks like my car was the predicessor to it, being all steel. Maybe it was built as a buck for fibergl*** mold-making. http://www.gatsbycars.com/griffins/pkc1.html if you follow the article above there are about 6 more pages showing ***embly.
Hey, Greg; Very neat find. Of all the people I can think of, tripping over/finding cool stuff, it'd be you. That'd be a neat one for another turbostude 6. Marcus...
----------------------------- A 472 Cad would be cool in just about anything, but with that L--O--N--G, L--O--N--G, 66-inch hood, I think this thing is absolutely crying out .....no, wait...make that 'screaming out', for a Stude straight-8 to fill up some of that space...and a twin-turbo'd Stude straight-8 would be just icing on the cake and even more cool! Mart3406 =========================
Well, I've built 5 versions of a turbocharged Stude straight 6, so an 8 shouldn't be too bad. There's a 40' motor that a friend is waffling on. They aren't as big or powerful as the Packard, the Buick or the Hudson, but I am a Stude guy at heart.....
Turbo ,man that thing is cool keep if ya can, I know your a busy guy,but that thing has got a at***ude I would love to own it I seen some pics of a shed up nort that had a ton of cool stuff in it by cushing is this the same place, it is cool it seem that the older we get the more cool stuff we find....
This guy appears to have another one of those: 14. 1991 Gatsby Cabriolet 12,100 miles The Gatsby Cabriolet was originally created and designed by master coachman, Sky Clausen of Gatsby Coachworks, Ltd. in San Jose , California . Number 8 of approximate 20 production models. Considered by many to be the best because it became a show car for the model. (Later became Kit Cars) Special interior (Tan natural rawhide leather) Ford 351 EFI (Electronic Fuel Injected) Turbo Charged Ford modified running gear. Approximate 400 HP I am the second owner. Found the above as part of an ad on the Street Rodder magazine Forum, dated 11-11-2009. He opened with...... I am currently in the process of selling the following vehicles for an estate. Please take a look and I can send pics of any car you are interested in . Thank you Mike Link to that page......http://forums.streetrodderweb.com/7...a-large-auto-collectioni-have-no-i/index.html
gosh right out of my naybor hood .. jerk .. se if i willgive up the extraparts now ... quit diggein in my back yard dammit... how did i miss tha... good luck
The Gatsby Cabriolet might have evolved later. It was mostly fibergl***, but probably built by some of the same guys. http://www.gatsbycars.com/cabriolet.html
---------------------- Maybe not as big and powerful in stock form, but a pair of turbos is a HUGE equalizer! A few years ago, I helped a buddy engineer and build a homebrew megasquirted EFI-turbo 2.3 Pinto motor. We ended up with a ridiculously easy 420 hp at only 5000 rpm. Not too shabby for a little 144-inch banger that was originally rated at about 90 stock hp. I might get blasted for suggesting this here, but If you do a Stude straight-8 for this car, have you thought about going with a Megasquirt (or some other)EFI set-up instead of a 'draw-through' carb installation??? You might even be able to use the stock Stude intake and adapt it by drilling it for and then welding or maybe brazing in the injecter bungs. Mart3406 ---------------- P.S.- By the way, regardless of what others have said here, I'm still *totally convinced* that this car is *really* the long-lost '36 Henway "Camel Toe" concept car!!!! I mean, REALLY....do people think I could actually make this stuff up???LOL! ===========================
It's pretty cool, and this thread is pretty entertaining...nice ahdunno, but I bet it will be a ***** dropper when it get's finished.
i bet it was the chrysler test car for this transmission! <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MXW0bx_Ooq4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MXW0bx_Ooq4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
"have you thought about going with a Megasquirt (or some other)EFI set-up instead of a 'draw-through' carb installation???" If I do EFI, I would certainly use Megasquirt and blow-thru. Might have to engineer in H2O injection too. "It's pretty cool, and this thread is pretty entertaining...nice ahdunno, but I bet it will be a ***** dropper when it get's finished." Now I HAVE to do it!.... But don't hold your breath for when it gets done. I have to finish the Tribaker first (maybe 12-18 months).
Naaaw you guys is aawwwll wrong . Look again , its satin black . Quite obviously its a dirty old r-t rod that has had its red wheels and spider webs stolen ffs ! ..... Above intended lightheartedly, be very interesting to see what you do with it . .
What ever it is, who ever built it, do you very best to make it the sweetest ride you ever had... and drive the piss out of it. Gary
