This one is sooo rad. Makes me want to run '32 spoked instead of my '35 spokes for my Model40 Coupe.

Well I have a couple definitions. Here's one that could be considered a truely "original hotrod". The man was Jesse Vincent. The car is now known as the Jesse Vincent Speester. He whipped up a powerful 384ci straight 8, open exhaust, nothing in the way of comforts or fenders. It was "piloted" by none other than Charles Lindberg.

Then, since I scanned this whole post, I didn't see one form of a front engine dragster. They were getting close with some of the belly tanks and other lakes cars, but really thinking about it the stripped down "rail jobs" from back then were it. Once we started to play on pavement instead of salt just about every form of street driven or personal hotrod seemed to emulate the drag racer. Full-bodied, old-bodied, gasser, even today with the exception of tuners and pro touring (both newer trends). Enjoy the Jesse Vincent. I was with it again last Sat and took better pics. I'll do that feature I promised so long ago when I scan and load everything.

Awesome thread idea. These hot rods are sick.

  4. Sorry but I have to disagree, these were the cars that were the reason real hot rods almost died off in the mid to late 60's. I'm not saying it's not a great car and this one is beautiful but it's a muscle car not a HOT ROD. I had both in the 60's a 409 Chevy and a '32 5 window Hot Rod that was chopped, channeled, Z'ed frame, drop axel with a '56 Olds engine. The 409 Chevy was 5 times more popular then than the '32 at that time.
    Thats my .02 worth!

  5. I must agree, that is exactly the way I'd like to build my next roadster.

The Tom Fritz painting "Lookin' For That Ol' Time Religion" is what I'm shooting for on my current roadster build.

Here's a favorite of mine. It belongs to Denny Slaymaker and has been on the road (and drag strip) for over 25 years and nearly 100,000 miles!

  7. Those were considered "Customs" and were called "No Go Showboats" by other "Hot Rodders".

I can't believe the McGee/Scritchfield roadster was only mentioned once.

It was respected enough by the LA Roadsters to make it on their logo since day one. And it is beautiful.

I think you are actually agreeing with me, I did not say it was a Hot Rod , I said it was the car that changed it all. Just an opinion, it could have been the 409 or maybe the 57 chevy, but cars with fenders were losing popularity with the younger crowd to more modern designs . Change happens, heck I had a lot of fun in High school (69-73) in 56 chevys, gto's and camaros.

If it aint pre 48 then it's to late, but I enjoy em all, custom cars custom classics and muscle cars, but to be a true rod pre 48. Just my opinion.
