    That's true.
Little Nipper was the radio. I can remember being with my parents when they bought one of the first ones sold at H G Palmer in Bell St. Ipswich. It replaced an Airzone Mantle radio. :)

Hey there WVaEnfield! Man, everybody ought to read the back-
ground on this unnecessary and deadly incident (not an accident,

just pure stupidity on the part of the brass). It'll make your blood
boil. Those men didn't need to die, and that keen airship didn't
need to be wasted. In many ways, the U.S. program was ahead
of the others, but the Shenandoah was the next-to-last straw leading
to cancellation of the rigid-frame, lighter-than-air program. The
U.S. was lucky enough to be able to use scarce helium, which
solved one of the two major challenges with flying dirigibles.
The Germans and British had to use highly enflammable hydrogen
-- which made their ships potential flying firetraps. But piss-poor
decision-making was the other problem; the brass should have
left it to the CAPTAINS whether to take their ships up in inclement
    weather. End of rant.

Hey, BYW, how are things goin' with the Model A you bought
up here in Columbus? Just curious if you got a start yet, bro.
I don't want to be OT, so PM me if ya get the chance!

I agree with the ID of the jet on the CVE-88 as a Banshee. Is the aircraft to the left an AD?

And THIS one was not an accident but a STUNT! In 1896,
promoters planned this pre-Evel Knievel event at a site
they dubbed "Crush," Texas. 40,000 people showed up
and paid to watch what was expected to be a well-planned
spectacle. Below are the before and after pix. The crews
had actually practiced, so that their trains would collide at
45 mph (90 mph combined). Engineers backed the trains
up to a distance of four miles. With boilers fully fired and
pressure up, it didn't work out QUITE as well as planned!
Three spectators were killed by shrapnel pieces half the
size of a drive wheel, and the photographer had a bolt
take out one of his eyes. Oh, well, best laid plans, eh?

Dick, I'll bet that pic DOES make you proud. And it should! I hope your family enjoyed many decades of prosperity there, buddy.

And, Twin. Man, SPEAKING of families: Do you happen to know where and the real year for that young warrior, his proud forebears AND that red&white '56 Firedome?
